So I found online that there is a device called a livescribe pen that acts as a digital audio recorder and possibly a tablet pc. Your notes you write with the fun have a control find option so you can search thru them easily.

Has anyone used it? I want a voice recorder for those obnoxious profs that don't believe in recording the lectures and uploading them on blackboard. But the ideal would be if I could use this pen/audio recorder and jot notes on my laptop into powerpoint during lecture. Does anyone have anything all in one that would do that?

I received a livescribe pen as a gift before entering medical school, but only used it a few times as my school records all the lectures. It does have some cool features - when you plug it into your computer, it uploads the pages of notes you have taken and makes them searchable. It also allows you to click on a word of your notes and immediately takes you to the point in the lecture that was being recorded when you wrote that word. I think if you were devoted to using it and all of its features, it could be pretty useful - I just didn't use it enough to tell whether or not it was a good tool or if the extra features were just gimmicks.

Do you think it could be handy in rotations? Not sure if it's legal to use it, but I'm sure it can be permitted somehow.

I'm only a second year so I'm not sure, but I don't really see it being that useful. You would have to carry around special paper, although I think they do make smaller notepads that would probably be easy to carry. I'm not sure what you would want to record - your interviews with the patient? I can't really see the utility in having that recorded. I also don't really think it would be that useful to have your patient notes available to upload to your computer. As you mentioned, it's probably not allowed anyways - I know at my school they're extremely picky about us having patient information saved on our personal computers.

i tried it too after receiving it for a ggift... great idea just maybe not the best for medicine... although i wish i used it for conferences amd small group stuff more

I have some friends who use it. I think it's an awesome idea, but like everyone else said, not that useful in med schol. I really don't want to carry around the special notepad everywhere.

I've been using one for the past year. I'm not in med school, but the way I use it I'm not sure how helpful it would be, except maybe for dictating notes and listening to it as I review.

I put all the homework problems for my students on it and post them to my school website. It was, btw, AMAZING for organic mechanisms.
