Can anyone recommend any good areas to live or apartments near Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield? It'll just be me and I'm looking for a safe and quiet area primarily without breaking the budget.

The rent in town can vary $500/month to $1,000/month, depending on which side of town you're on. The closest apartments near the hospital listed in the housing spreadsheet are gated apartments approx. $700 (+utilities) for a 1 BDRM, $850 (+utilities) for a 2 BDRM. If you're thinking about sharing an apartment with another resident to save money, I would also consider the fact that these people are going to be your professional colleagues and co-workers, and you'll be with them many of your waking hours. So factor how comfortable you are with that.
