Loans for fully-funded programs

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
The bigger question is why do you want to do this? Watch some Suzy Orman and never take out private loans.

I'm in a fully funded program and I took some out to help with moving/fees/book costs at the beginning of the year. Lived paycheck to paycheck post bac so I wasn't able to save much before starting grad school. I took out the unsubsidized student loans (grad students aren't allowed to take out subsidized anymore). With 5 years of school and internship costs, I'm trying to keep the total under 10k. I think it's very doable and I'm not too worried about taking on too much debt.

Before 2008 she used to talk about student debt as "good debt" so I'm not so enamored with Suze Orman anymore

Why even bother saying that? Circumstances call for it, and no, they will definitely not be private. Thanks for the response syzergy.

Yeah the last part was overly dramatic, but it is easy to live on borrowed money while interest builds up. Especially with our field, the loan repayment and starting salaries are not great, and it is just one more thing to consider long-term.
