I have bad credit because of some medical collections on my report. I was wondering If this effects me when i am trying to take loan out for dental school.

I had to go in E R and I have no way of paying it. Im a full time student.

I was just wondering if anyone would give me loan if i have a few collections for ct scan place and all those kinds of things on me.

I think the student loan process for professional school is different than a typical loan. It is more about what that loan is buying than what your current rating is. When you're finished with dental school, you'll have the income to handle the loans, regardless of your current credit rating. Besides, I think most of your loans are government loans, which I would think is less about credit score, and more about need-based situation. Besides, I can't imagine a graduate student with a poor credit rating is a rare thing...

You should attempt to contact the collection agency to see if you can get the bill reduced and make payments. Most medical collection agencies are willing to work with the patient without insurance. You can generally get your bill reduced by 50% or so and they will make payment plans. See if you can set up a payment plan if they remove the negative report on your credit.

I had to go to an urgent care for stitches one night and received a bill for $1100. My insurance deductible was higher than that at the time because I had to buy my own plan just in case of a catastrophic event. I called and they cut the bill by 50% and allowed me to pay it off in 90 days.

If all you can pay is $20 a month, they are still getting paid and eventually will be paid off. Give that a shot because bad credit follows you everywhere.

Thank you, I will definitely try to contact them and see if something can be done if not I just hope I get a dental school loan so i can pay all this off one day.

My friends say the same thing that probably most of the graduate students dont have a good credit score, but mine is specially bad cause of those collections lol.

again thank you guys for your inputs.

Many dental school loans don't require a credit check at all.
I fund my education entirely through loans, and not one of my loans this year required a credit check of any type.
I currently receive the Ford Federal Subsidized and Unsubsidized student loans, and the government's title IV Health Student Loan Program loans. I think all of these loans are based on financial need.
Some loans, like if you need more than the cost of attendance of your school (like if you want to rent a penthouse suite while in D school) require a credit check and have higher interest rates. I think every private loan requires a credit check.

I'd recommend going to the school's websites that you are applying to and looking at their financial aid websites. The loans for graduate programs are not always the same as the ones for undergraduate programs.
