Hello guys,

One of my letter writers uploaded the letter without a signature. He basically uploaded the letter from microsoft word. Is this ok, or is a signature needed?

Signature is for sure NEEDED. I had to have my letter writer submit another letter with the signature on it, which took forever.

Do they not receive this information in the email that AADSAS sends them?

Question: How are you able to see the signature on LOR? I waived my right. Any thought on that?

You cannot see the signature, you can just ask your letter writer if they signed it. Most professors know that they have to sign it. The only problem I had was with the dentist letter writer because he had never sent one electronically before.

I don't think it's a big deal if they don't sign it. The ADEA and Interfolio already have other methods in place to verify it is indeed to right person who wrote the letter (e.g. they send a link directly to their email address). People are used to doing things online without having to print anything out these days, that I wouldn't be surprised if there were various letter writers that left out their signature. Plus, the ADEA and/or dental schools can always call and confirm it was the letter writer's actual letter and not a fake letter--a signature does not make it official that they wrote it.

You can get it deleted and resubmit. The dentist has to be the one to contact AASDAS however they do it immediately and regenerate the email. I just went through this. Different reasons however but still managed to get a do over.

Hm, this is news to me. I don't have a clue if my recommenders literally "signed." Would AADSAS let you know if they weren't?

Thank you for your help, I appreciate it!

No worries!!! I would def get the signature. Not sure how other schools are on LOEs but I just recently visited a pre-dental forum where they look at every little mistake in those letters.

I do not think there is a way to know. I just asked letter writer if he signed it because one of my other letters writers wanted to know if it needed to be signed before submission.

LOL Yeah, UF is so picky with LORs.

 of course! I know my own people.

I got my letter of rec done by interfolio and it was a paper request, but they still asked for an email address. I figured that they were going to send an email to my evaluator saying "you recieved a request", and since I wanted it to be sent by paper I just told my evaluator to ignore the email that gets sent by interfolio on the day i requested it from interfolio. is this bad? when does the email of interfolio regarding confirmation of the authenticity of the evaluator get sent?

When you request a paper rec they don't email the person, that's just a way they have to set up their account in case they decide to upload the paper through the Interfolio website.

Hey everyone! So I had this problem with one of my professors during the last application cycle. I think that this is mainly just an issue with electronic submissions. AADSAS doesn't notify you if your writers are missing letterheads/signatures. I found out about the missing signature when I called a school to make sure that they received all my materials. It's a pretty inconvenient mishap, so it's definitely better to find out sooner than later. Otherwise, the letter will not count because the schools don't know who wrote it.

If you're worried, I suggest asking your writers or calling AADSAS to make sure that each of your letters do have a letterhead/signature. For those who are still acquiring letters, it wouldn't hurt to just mention to include it. I made sure to make note of it to all my writers for this application cycle. Hope this helps! Best of luck 🙂

I got another question about the signature.

What if the letter signer/professor did a simple stroke of signatures that doesn't look legit would that cause an issue? He or she did send in business cards. Would the school think the letter is legit?

If the letter and corresponding signature came from a professor, regardless of how "legit" their signature looks, you have no reason to worry.

Hmm..are you asking about on paper? For paper submissions, usually most writers use an official letterhead (I know some schools require it, like UNC) and if they do physically sign it, it's usually above their printed name. That's to the best of my knowledge at least!

When I found out about my missing signature, the admissions lady on the phone wasn't sure what was wrong with my letters at first. Apparently, they only see the letters. The evaluator's information isn't attached with his/her own letter. If it's a paper letter, I don't know if they would see a business card that was sent along with the letter..unless AADSAS scans that with the letter itself. I would call and ask someone who would know for sure though.
