If I write a letter of Intent to a school that has me on their wait list Do you think I should tell them in the LOI that I have an acceptance elsewhere but would rather attend their school if they offer me a spot?

is it a good idea to state that you are accepted to another school but if you are taken off the waitlist, you will definitely attend their school?

Huh?

After reading this a few times I believe you are saying, "If I write a letter of Intent to a school that has me on their wait list Do you think I should tell them in the LOI that I have an acceptance elsewhere but would rather attend their school if they offer me a spot?"

If thats the question then a few things:

1.) If one of the schools in questions is an MD school then come May 1st you are only allowed one spot at a school, so after this date is when MOST, not all, waitlist spots are then offered. If you are waitlisted at an MD school, ride it out until the beginning of May.

2.) If the issue is with DO schools then the only thing I would bring to mind is:
a.) What did the school ask you in the interview (the one you are waitlisted at) pertaining to other schools, how you would fit into their program, why you wanted to attend their university?
b.) Seriously consider, How competitive you are for that school.
c.) Figure out if there is a ranking system to the waitlist or if it was a first come first serve list.

Personally I would write the LOI and maybe not mention the other acceptance by name but mention that you do have an acceptance elsewhere. But show an enthusiastic interest and beef up the why you want to go to that school (the waitlisted one) and what you bring to their school and why they should have you above others. This med school app process is definitely an ego stroking game sometimes.

I mentioned the above points because I think those are the things you need to keep in mind when writing the LOI so you can write a good one and one that will cause a serious second evaluation of your waitlist status.

Best of Luck!

hey easy C, thx for the suggestions. and my bad, i wrote that question really quick so ill change it.

the schools in question are both DO schools. i was just wondering if a school is less likely to take someone off the waitlist if they already have an acceptance elsewhere vs someone who does not have an acceptance at all.
