Hey Guys,
I'm starting a thread for those applying to Loma Linda right now. We still have some time to finish our applications, but just wanted to start this now since the deadline is approaching. Please post if/when you get your interviews! 🙂 Would like to know how it went, and when people are generally starting to get their interview invitations! 🙂

do they have rolling admissions? when do they start reviewing apps??

LLU doesn't start to review applications until 10/1/08. Yes, LLU is on rolling admissions basis.

Application sent 9/1/08
Application received on 9/13/08

I didn't like how they changed the system where LORs are sent after application is complete. It really hurts to have references who are very busy and take a long time to send in the LOR. I think it should be sent with the start of the application not afterwards

or you could just ask your authors earlier.

well you must be lucky to of references that will immediately write you the LOR if you ask them beforehand. For me, it didn't work that way... they wrote my pharmCAS LOR months beforehand and still took awhile (so obviously i asked them earlier). Some were quick, but some took a longer. If I could send the LOR to them before completing the app, it would be done much sooner, since i don't wait for my app to complete based on how fast they finish the LOR. Its not like I just sent them the email after completing the app and said fill it out. not sure what your exactly saying that i should have done.

is this loma linda by Colton ca. cause i live in moreno valley

So I talked to one of LLU's representative today, she told me that adcom doesn't start reviewing Fall 2009 applications until the end of October. Interviews are given out from January through March.

I ought to let you guys know...

Hey guys,
I wonder whether LLU favors religious students? I am not really religious despite that fact that I graduated from a strict catholic university. I dont know whether LLU considers non-religious students.

hi TL294! yes loma linda looks at non-religious students too! i am a P1, and just started loma linda..and for my religion i put: none or undecided, so they do consider you, but do keep in mind, there is weekly chapel and there are 2 religious classes that you have to take for your first year. since you went to a catholic university, i am sure you are used to the regulations and stuff. if you have any questions feel free to ask 🙂

and to PharmacyTekRX7, loma linda is near colton, ca..., its near san bernandino and riverside. i think one of my classmates commutes from moreno valley.

good luck for your application process! 🙂

hello! first time poster! I had a question re. LLU the personal statement. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to incorporate all of the LLU personal statement questions into one giant essay, or to answer them each individually and number them. It does instruct to answer them in the order provided, but not grouped or separately.

i asked the llu rep and they said to answer each question separately, and not combine them into a huge essay. also, you need to make sure it comes out to about one-two pages.. two pages max... hope this helps.

Has anybody applied to Loma Linda for fall 2009?
Have you gotten interviews yet or even better acceptances?
please discuss!
😀

I don't know if they have rolling admissions..... I hate waiting!

I dont know whats taking them so long I turned in my application in late Sept. and my recommenders finished by mid Oct. 😡

what is taking this school so long...I turned my stuff in Sept.

I also submitted everything by early sep. and all i've gotten so far is a confirmation email and that's it. does anyone know when they start to send interview letters or anything else related with interviews

my friend is currently a student at loma linda and said they conducted their first round of interviews today..did anybody here interview?

That sounds highly unlikely. I havent heard about any interviews for COP at loma linda.

Can anyone confirm that.

^^ she said it was mainly students from the affiliate seventh day colleges

Not sure if this is entirely true, but I am highly convinced Loma Linda interviews students from their affiliated schools such as LLU, La Sierra, and Walla walla Universities FIRST. (before all students from non-adventist schools)

A lot of LLU pharmacy students say about 15-20% of their class are of Adventist faith or graduated from an Adventist school. The first interview might be reserved strictly for students of their own faith or for students who attended their affliated schools.

Logically speaking, if LLU did not consider their students from their own affliated schools first, a lot of their own students would not stand a chance of competing with students who graduated from non-Adventist universities.

I'm not 100% sure this is what's going on right now. But if this did occur, it is something worth thinking about when considering how many spots are truly available for LLU school of pharmacy.

Was anyone able to talk to the admission person concercing interview invitation and when they will be sent. I sent them an email last week and never got an reply

Hi guys I'm currently a 1st year right now and I haven't heard anything about interviews yet but then again im hardly around the top floor where they do the interviews...what I can say is that there are 7th day adventist here form my class probably like 10...but also alot who aren't....One thing that surprised me is that not everyone has pharmacy experience...Alot of them shadowed pharmacist usually in hospital so that was a suprise. All in all tho this is a good school they really do care about the students...maybe a little too much which gets annoying (ex. like if u miss class they watn u to tell them or get a note from doctor and stuff. but thts only if u get caught lol) and they really dont want u to fail and actually do whatever they can to make sure u dont fail.

One big advice is dont slack off if ur here cause man I am paying for it lol.

Good luck I intereviewd in January... but some of my classmates interviewed in December prbly mid december. Good luck

just to reply to a few responses:

1. BillLy120: you're definitely not a slacker. because i'm 99.999% sure you're way ahead of me studying for physio. and get more sleep =)

2. Transformer: I'm not sure if you're right about Loma Linda interviewing their affiliated students first... I was interviewed during their 1st round of interviews last year and I am neither SDA nor from their sister schools.

3. simplyv001: I think you might want to ask your friend who goes to LLU how she heard about the interviews. I haven't heard of anything from our administrators so far.. and I know every year, they ask current students to talk to interviewees and they haven't asked us yet or even mentioned anything to us. but who knows.. it was 'dead week' and now it's finals week, it's possible they haven't bothered us with that info since we're busy studying anyways. but i still want to encourage u to ask your friend exactly how they know that info. unless ur friend witnessed it, i highly doubt it..

4. For those of you who submitted your apps in sept and havent heard anything: last year, my turn-around time was about 5 months. my apps were complete by mid-June, received the interview call by late Oct, and interviewed in Nov. so please be patient.

good luck y'all with your applications. i have to admit, your apps are much harder than the previous years. but don't give up half way and push thru! 🙂

Hey pharmdy from last year when i was on this site regularly i always wondered who you were in class ever since class started and trust Im soooo freaking behind on physio especially this pulmonary stuff....hit me up wit a email...

When's the first interview? I couldn't find the dates on LLU's website. According to this thread, it seems like none of the applicants received anything from the school yet...

I interviewed on 12/03 still waiting for acceptance, I know some people have already been accepted but they had early interviews

For all those applying to Loma Linda, just make sure you are thoroughly aware of the Seventh-Day Adventist school affiliation. Not that it's a bad thing if it's your religion, but having grown up SDA and gone to SDA school from kindergarten through 10th grade, I know that the school and the religion are pretty much one and the same. If you are not SDA, just make sure you know what you are getting into - not that it's a super-freaky religion or anything, just very conservative and very inundated in every aspect of their schools. For the record, having grown up SDA, Loma Linda would be the absolute last school I'd apply to, but that's just my personal opinion. 😉

Disclaimer: Healthy idea in the making:

Just curious: Do any of the students ever question/see the contradiction between the human physiology and anatomy they teach, and the omnipotent being they preach?

LLU is taking forever and I feel like my application fell off the face of the earth. I almost forgot I applied there. That's ok b/c I'm satisfied with the options I have.

Contradiction? What contradiction? :meanie: Creationism flows through science classes and evolution is mocked as ridiculous. The argument is this: "With all the truly amazing scientific goings-on in the world, how could that just 'happen' over time - it's not possible, and the only way to explain it is a higher power. To try to justify the wonders in the world by scientific analysis is to slap God in the face and ignore the incredible miracles he's given us." From my experience, questioning anything in a contradictory fashion is seen as rebellious and mean-spirited and is heavily discouraged.

I appreciate your response:

Evolution is mocked as ridiculous? Yet the fact that you believe the earth was created some 6,000 years ago, long after the Sumerians invented glue, is not? How about the fact that you actually believe one man, collected one animal from every species, including some 250,000 species of beetles (quite the collector I might add) and put them all on one boat? Ridiculous? It doesn't just 'happen' over time, it happens through a process of natural selection. I urge you to pick up a book on the topic and read through it thoroughly, enlighten yourself. Trying to justify the wonders of the world through an espistemological black hole of a book, while ignoring hundreds of thousands of years in the fossil record is a slap in the face of paleontologists and all of science alike.

Questioning religion through contradiction shouldn't be seen as mean-spirited, it should be seen as eye-opening and healthy--just as it is in every other area of study. Religious ideologies shouldn't be so immune to criticism if they are intended to be taken seriously.

We could go on all day but I realize this is not the place for that, my apologies for bringing it up in the first place. Good luck with your applications, I wish you the best.

Sometimes it's hard to convey tone across the internet. I totally agree with you and we are actually arguing on the same side here, my friend. Go back and re-read my post as this is what "they", the religious schools taught us and now that I am more enlightened, I see it as completely ridiculous. 🙂

I'm not going to join this argument, but thought you guys might want to read this review.

"Certainly, if Darwin, the father of evolution himself chose to include the Creator in the final summary of his research, then evolution and religion were not destined to pose a threat to one another, and somewhere, for some reason, we have gone astray."

So did anyone get any news from Loma Linda? Considering they are interviewing starting January, I think they will be at least giving a few weeks notice. January interviewers should have heard something by now or maybe very very soon.

I got an interview for Jan 8th. They called me on Dec 19th (or around then) and then sent me an email to confirm. Anyone else attending that interview?

hey, i'm still waiting for Loma Linda. I see you got denied from UCSF and UOP. Same here. Probably for the same reasons.

i just talked to someone in the admissions office and they have already had many interviews including in january. I was shocked. 😱 did anyone interview from here yet? i havent even heard anything from them.

I am not sure whats happening? 🙁

I called their office just now because I was starting to think they forgot about me or something since it's been so damn long.

The lady said that they are trying a new interviewing process this year and everything is "getting pushed back." Whatever that means. I guess it's taking longer than usual with this new process. She said they pretty much just started interviewing and they schedule based on faculty interviewer availability. She also mentioned that there are plenty of spots open for the class still and they will be interviewing through March. You are supposed to receive an email saying they reviewed your application, then a phone call if you get chosen to interview.

For those that already interviewed, is that how your process went?

interested to see if anyone else got an interview

Nope, nothing here for me. Ya know, I'm surprised that this thread is so dead. Isn't LLU's health sciences graduate program pretty decent?

It is a good school, but i think some just can't deal with it being an SDA school, not part of pharmCAS, and the supplemental questions were asking more about your spirituality (also longer) and I think that turned away more people from applying or being interested in LLU. I want to go to LLU so I'm still trying to bump this thread and find out when they will start sending out a bunch of invites or if they are just going to trickle in a few throughout the year.

The dentistry/DO/nursing program is very strong and competitive. Pharmacy is a little new, so that is also a reason why.

whatever this new process is, it is turning off a lot of applicants. I'm not even sure I want to interview here anymore even if I did get an offer.

I registered to give some info about my experience. I interviewed in the morning on Jan 8. The admissions lady told me that the committee would be meeting that friday. I got a call the following Monday that I was accepted. So good luck... they work pretty fast over there.

Wow! That was quick. Congrats. May I ask for your stats? Thanks in advance.

That is really funny because you got a result over a weekend, my friend who interviewed 3 months ago for dental at LLU still hasn't gotten a reply.

even though i didn't get an interview yet, i got an email from LLU about some System Outage last Saturday. Today, I got an email saying I did not finish my Biology prerequisites and that they would review my application again if I respond to them about how I will satisfy it. I hope this was a mistake and somehow related to the system outage.
