Has anyone used a long distance moving company? Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!

ABF is nice. You get a trailer dropped off at your current place. You load it, they pick it up abd drive it to the new place. You unload and they pick the empty trailer up.

Works well and is a pretty cheap option overall. I've used them three or four moves now.

Lots of people I know have used the various outfits that drop a storage container at your site for a few days, you load it (or get someone else to), and then they pick it up and transport it to the next location.

Several years ago I found a random fly by night guy on the website UShip. He ended up breaking a bunch of my stuff. Also found a credit card of mine in my stuff, and when I got the bill I found out that he paid for all the gas for the drive across the country with my credit card. Highly recommended.

Just make sure you check the BBB website for open/closed complaints before ultimately deciding on which moving company to use. Lots of different companies and obviously some better than others.

Are any of you single folks, just buying new stuff when you get there? I don't have any residency relocation stipend, and I am just planning on taking my clothes, desk chair, few pots&pans etc. I don't need much in terms of furniture--just a desk from officemax (foldable). I don't know if its worth the hassle of dealing with a company.

I'm currently living with my family so there's very little that I own myself.

That's exactly what I'm doing....not even bringing a desk or a chair

Afb is the one i used a whole Back. They give you a trailer, you fill it And They move it to Your destination. Whatever breaks In there is on you.
I drove with my tv and my ps3 on my car. 🙂
If you are a good careful packer it's a good choice. Not the cheapest one.

We just used ABF Upack boxes. It was cheaper than driving a Uhaul ourselves, and they were pretty quick. We packed everything ourselves, and nothing broke, even our TVs.
