If you have Campbell Biology 8th edition, on page 233, under 'metaphase' it says it is the longest stage of mitosis and often lasts about 20 minutes.

Still prophase?

i think it should be prophase..think about it..during prophase nuclear envelope has to disappear, chromatin must condense into chromosomes and mitotic spindle has to form. that a lot of events that need to take place...as opposed to metaphase where chromosomes align and anaphase separate and telophase nuc.envelope reforms..even if i would have forgotten the answer that's the way i would reason this out.

Haha... well this is funny... it is 8th edition, and if it is so obvious that prophase is the longest, I don't know why the authors/editors wouldn't revise/edit that part of the book.. o well...

No wonder ADA exam 2009 are full of errors, prob because how the ADA makes the exam corresponds to the Campbell book. lol
