I actually think they do reject people who they do not think will seriously consider going to their school because that applicant has crazy good stats. I also know of someone who had bomb stats and got into some really good schools and having Howard being their only rejection lol

His stats aren't the problem. The problem is that he's white and not a URM.

The predents profile could be fake. Assuming its not though, this basically just emphasizes Howard's 'We don't like white people' philosophy.

I think there is some confusion here.
In my original post that you quoted, I stated that I also know of someone. I wasn't referring to the person with the predent profile that got brought up.
Either way, its a weird situtation.

Well Howard does accept a handful of Asians and Caucasians every year so it's not like they're restricting it to just one race. It's just predominately URM because of the school's history.

The reasoning is.. that if you're from the 'Hood, you're more likely to go back to the 'Hood to practice.

There is a shortage of dentists in the 'Hood and these schools try to address that need.

I'm pretty sure its to increase the representation of these minorities in the dental field. Just because you're a URM doesn't mean you're from the "Hood."

You're half right. These schools are open to increase the representation of URMs in the dental field. That is their main objective, but they cannot be so bluntly open like that.

Their official school policy is to recruit those who will practice in these underserved areas. So even if you're not an URM but you can show that you will practice in these areas, they will have greater interest in you.

Howard Entering 2010 Class Racial makeup:
Black: 55
Hispanic: 3
White: 12
Asian: 10

Total: 80

It's not impossible to get in if you're not URM, but if you're not URM and coming from a middle classed family, it'll be harder to sell that plight of working in underserved areas to the adcom at Howard.
