Since DO schools allow retakes, can I assume they don't then look down upon retakes? All the allo kids seem to think retaking some Cs in totally unimportant classes will look badly on an application. My thought is...if they didn't want retakes they would not allow it to change the GPA, right?

Example: I have a C in Introduction to Fiction I took from a CC and I could easily retake it and get a A and that replacement would take me from 3.14 to 3.2. A few of those could make a huge difference.

Has anyone ever been questioned on why they retook a class? Or been told it wasn't looked well upon?

yes. you have to do whatever you can to raise your GPA.

5 applications. 5 interviews.
2 withdrew. 2 acceptances. 1 awaiting decision.

Of course past poor academic performance may be questioned. solid grades in retakes/advanced courses are a good answer.

Depending on how much time you have, I would bother retaking a fiction course over bad grades in sciencce courses. Do those first, and then if you ahve the time or inclination, move on to the fiction course.

I was never asked about my retakes, none of them were in the prereqs which I think is probably looked at more positively than if you had to retake a few of the prereq courses for med school.

I was asked at one interview what the heck happened my freshman year of college for my 1st degree. I still got accepted.

DON'T retake C's, unless your overall GPA or science GPA is below 3.0.

Only retake D's, F's, & W's.

The only time you should even consider retaking a C if you have a low GPA is in the prerequisites for medical school.
