To the pathologists (present and future) out there:

I need your help. After extensive thought and debate, I have decided I want to switch from my current specialty to path. The short story about me: American MD, good Step 1 and 2, good relationship with the higher ups at my residency program. I'm outgoing, get along well with others, work hard... (ha, this is starting to sound like a personal ad.) However, the end of the year is nearing and I need to do something.

My question is, anyone out there know of a program that may be willling to accept a current resident outside of the match in the very near future? I'd like to either be in Cali or East Coast (prefer the warmer climate, though am open to ideas.) If you don't want to post publicly, that's okay; please PM me (I promise I will keep the info private.)

Any info and advice would be extremely appreciated as this was a hard decision to make and I look forward to getting to move on to path.

Thanks!

Best thing to do is to go to the Pathology programs websites in the areas you wish to go and call the Directors of the programs to see if there are openings. This late in the year, it may be difficult to find an opening, but you don't lose anything by calling.

There is a webpage that lists all the Patholgoy programs in the US, altho' I don't know for sure where it is...I think it is listed inone of the ealrier threads on this board.

alcmd-I sent you a private message.

Well, I think if you've spent any time on this particular forum, you'll see that we're all about helping people out. Sometimes, the information we want to give someone isn't necessarily pertinent for everyone else to read--like a conversation between two people! And that's exactly what private messaging is for.

So, I wouldn't get too worked up about it.

Yup, I've heard that Tom Ridge and John Ashcroft take turns browsing this forum looking for people to reveal things. 😉

Maybe we could start speaking in code. Hey Brian, remember that thing I told you about that girl? Well, the lobster is in the pot and the sky is turning purple. Repeat: The lobster is in the pot, and the sky is turning purple. Begin OPERATION FORMALIN at the prior agreed upon hour. Take Fluffy and proceed to hill 87A and await my signal. Abort code as previously discussed. Today is the day. All will tremble before us. Use the following for communication:

Anyway, I think people are for the most part helpful. There are some who are cryptic of course, but sometimes things are just more appropriate for personal messages.

i am glad you are back
your posts always make me laugh

Give University of Maryland Pathology a look (if its in your region of interest), they are flexible and have helped out residents in your situation in the past.

Good Luck

Glad to hear that the lahbstah is in the paht! Awaiting instructions... 😉

Meanwhile, Fluffy and I are on hill 87A trying to remain calm about Step 1. In fact, I should probably do another set of 50 on q-bank!

Abort! Abort! Mission is compromised. The fox has entered the hen house. The fat man has entered the buffet.

Don't stress too much about step I. I know, easier said than done. But with lots of practice questions you will do fine.

Well, this is off topic!
