I actually have two questions here. Some background information: I took two and a half years of business about 8-9 years ago, and switched about a year later into sciences. I didn't care for business at all, and did horrible (~2.3gpa). I finished my undergrad in biology with an upward trend year over year, starting off at about 3.0 junior year, 3.4 sophmore year and finishing with 3.7 in senior year. I'm also currently doing a year post-bacc that is going strong, and hopefully I will finish with a 4.0.

However, because of these old business grades my total gpa is ~3.1. Is there no recovery from this in US MD eyes?

Secondly, if I got a C+ in first year general chem, would it be worthwhile to retake the course in my post bacc to show recent mastery? I'm taking the course now, and my alternative is to drop general chem and keep my other 4 courses (upper year biochem, upper year cell bio, upper year bio stats, and intro sociology), making more time for MCAT review and the extra curriculars that I've got going on. I've recently started second guessing my choice to retake chemistry as I have heard it may not look good.

Thanks for any help!

You've gotta be 35'ish plus something (I hope, hate non-non-trad students), that's a waste of time. Get the pre-req courses done, take the MCAT, and apply. Nobody is going to ask, you'll either get interviews or you won't. If you don't look at correcting the low hanging fruit.

The 3.1 isn't going to kill you. Just focus now on what you can control: post-bacc GPA, MCAT, ECs, PS, LORs, early submission, etc.
