After a year and a half of undergrad and countless hours of research and introspection, I've decided that dentistry is the only way to go!

Now [in some ways] the tough part.

My current B/C/P GPA is 2.8 with an overall GPA of 3.1. [These obviously aren't the best as is, but will be on the steady rise once I get to those awesome biology electives next year 😀]

I want to be a valued candidate for dental school [I know, who doesn't 😉], and I definitely want to have options, so I want to get started now. Do schools look highly upon those who have joined an undergrad pre-dental association? Shadowed their local dentists? [Any other ideas?] I was also offered the possibility of a position in which I will learn to (and eventually) help fabricate dentures and crowns at a Veteran's dental lab. (Good idea?)

My bad about the long post. Guess I'm just looking for a place to get started. Thanks!

Schools like all that stuff but it isn't the biggest selling point. Schools value individual experience and personality the highest and then the GPA and DAT scores. It is possible to get in with that GPA but it isn't a good possibility. You have to work very hard to raise your stats and to do exceptionally well on the DAT to overcompensate for them. Wish you the best.

I think TheWiredNerve hit it right on the point.

Having some sort of dental work is very important, but it definitely is not the biggest selling point. You should really concentrate on raising your GPA, and in the mean time you should take advantage of whatever dental experience is available. Good luck! 🙂😀😎
