For anyone who has some experience with these two programs, what type of an application (Step 1 score, research, grades, etc.) would a future DO need to match at Mayo or U of MN PM&R? I'm just looking for some numbers for a ballpark on how involved I'll need to get in the next few years. Obviously Mayo is the better program in most people's eyes, so I'm just trying to be realistic about what I'll need for each program, with the goal of giving myself the best chance I can to make my way back to Minnesota for my residency. Thanks in advance for your answers! 🙂

The last entering class at Mayo had an average Step 1 score of 240...

and yet they couldn't spell "weather"

And not one of them could run the 40 in under 4.9

I wish these were the numbers that counted for medical school haha. I ran a 6.3 60 yard dash, a few 6.4's, plenty of 6.5's, and some 4.4 and plenty of 4.5 40 yards.

Let me in please

I never saw the point of anything less than the 400 meter dash... It's such a practical number--I figure 400 meters is the minimum distance you need to run before a bear looses interest in you.

(In all seriousness--is the 40 still an actual event? We had a huge track team and we never ran anything shorter than 100 meters.)

I'm not sure if either of those are track events tbh. I only ran those distances for baseball showcases for college teams. They absolutely love the 60 yard dash. All it does is show you're fast but it's very different than running the bases.

No USMLE. Mayo bound. But highly untraditional.

I ended up playing for a d2 college, Columbus State. I wish I had followed up on some other schools and a couple of d1's because where I ended up turned out to be a bust. Really bad head coach who I didn't enjoy playing for at all.

In the big schools the coach really doesnt coach...he is just a talking head for recruiting and meetings.

Ah well sub 6.3 really impressive, thought you would have gotten D1 looks on that alone. Fastest dude I ever saw was justin upton get a 6.1 when we were 16. best of luck with your endeavors.

I can't imagine someone running a 6.1 haha. That's just blazing.

I got quite a few D1 looks on that 6.3 and 6.4 though. But the offers weren't as good as others. I think Mercer had the best d1 offer but it just didn't feel like a good fit for me at that time. The place I went to I got to pocket like 5 grand a semester, as well as free books, food, and room, which is quite a lot for a college kid doing nothing but playing ball and going to class. Measuring the 60 seems silly to me though. If you want to measure speed you might as well make it as similar to the real deal as possible. Measure speed on the bases. But anyway that's all history and even though I'm still in shape I'd probably run a 7+ haha. Now I'm finally focusing on school/more important things and still very interested in PM&R.
