Hello. My question is, is it okay to complete science prereqs at Miami Dade College for dental school admissions? According to this site: http://www.mdc.edu/accreditation/ MDC is regionally accredited and offers bachelor degrees now. It used to be a community college but now it is referred as a state college. Does this mean that this will not be frowned upon if I take the courses there? I took some courses with Florida International University several years ago but living on my own and working almost full time, I cannot afford almost 2k per semester. Therefore, I am forced to go to MDC. According to Nova Dental School, they are saying:

"Prior to matriculation, applicants must have completed a minimum of 90 semester-hours of coursework from a regionally accredited college or university. Not more than 60 semester-hours from community or junior college will be applied to the 90-semester-hour minimum."

I have a bachelor's degree with a 3.5 overall gpa in graphic design with AI Miami International University of Art and Design, loads of exp in the field (volunteer and an insurance job in a private practice where I took ct scans as well). I then took courses at FIU but didn't fare well from bad study habits. I took like almost 20 credits there though it was back in 2011 being the last time I took courses there and earned a very bad GPA in my sciences (took bio 1 and 2, chem 1 and 2, and physics with labs). Im going back to redo all of these courses from scratch; 2 classes/semester and continue on until finished.

So I assume I would be fine to apply there in the future. However, at University of Florida, it doesn't say anything besides the required coursework. What do you guys think? It's not a matter of it being "easier" (and from what I hear, the same profs from FIU teach at MDC), but an economic issue.

A four year university is where most dental schools want pre-reqs taken from.

Yea I understand that but what if someone cannot simply afford that. I don't live with my parents also it's not a jr or community college, it used to be and they offer 4 year degrees too. Some of these sites do say a 4 year college or university has to be attended. Thanks for the reply

I second contacting the individual schools you're thinking of applying to. Obviously they'd know more than any of us.

You'll be fine. It eliminates a very small percentage of schools. It's a very nitpicky situation, so I'm sure you'll be OK as long as you explain it to the schools.
I took physics 2 at a CC and it all worked out for me.

Yeah I think so too. Ive been on my own away from my family and have been for ten years now. Plus, MDC is regionally accredited and offers 4 year degree options making it more of an actual state college instead of a CC or jrC. BTW, what's your study habits? Like I will have to work almost FT and be able to study and was wondering exactly how to juggle the two

What I did was work around schedules. I worked full time as well, and I have a family. I would wake up at 4AM every single day and study until it was time to go to work. Then I would come home and spend time with my family, unless I had class. On the weekends I studied from 4AM until Noon, then devoted the rest of the day to family, no exceptions.
With your schedule, it will likely take longer to get your prerequisites done, but that's ok. Time management is key in your situation, as it will be in dental school. If you REALLY want it, you will do whatever it takes to make it happen.
Good luck!

You'll be fine. I took a few main prerequisites online at a fairly unknown/random school. They really don't look into it as much as people think. Again if you are worried you can ask the school. Mostly they just look at the course name and that's it.
