Loosing in State Residence

So I’m not looking to go to medical school but my fiancé is. He is a Texas resident with a competitive MCAT and GPA he applied late this cycle and received two interviews but didn’t match during the match process. He went to undergrad out of state.

We are currently doing the long distance thing before getting married in June. I was hoping if he doesn’t get into med school this cycle be could join me out of state for his gap year. My question is does this put his Texas residency status into question? If not does it damage his chances with Texas schools?

Possibly....the best way to answer that question would be to contact TMDSAS directly to ask about such a situation. Below is the link to the TMDSAS web page that details information about how one qualifies as a TX resident. You can also call them at 512-499-4785. They get questions pertaining to residency often, so they've probably heard of situations like yours before and can provide more clarity than SDN will. Hope this helps!

As to whether living out of state will negatively impact his chances applying to TX schools....I doubt it as long as he is confirmed to be a TX resident. While I was interviewing, I met several people who were TX residents living out of state at the time that were having good cycles. However, this is just my perception and I am not sure what individual ad com members may think.

It will outline the ins and outs. Additionally, the two of you should investigate each texas medical school's website and policy on this sort of situation.
