This will be my second time applying and I was planning on submitting my application on June 2.

Got an email from a prof who's writing one of my LORs that she can't submit my letter until mid July to early August since she'll be out of the country. I only mentioned the date to her like FOUR MONTHS AGO and gave her a reminder email. I'm a little irritated because she said I never mentioned it.

Will this affect my application from being reviewed until she submits my letter?

Thanks in advance ladies and gentlemen.

In this day and age, why is it difficult for her to send you a letter even if she IS out of the country? I am sure you guys can get creative and get the letter sent on time... Just try really hard her to urge her to find a way to send it. But look for another person to write it asap also just to be safe. Even if she does write it after urging her, try to read the mood and figure out if she will write you a bad letter or not.

And as far as I know, some schools will not review your application until letters are sent while some will review your application and then look at it some more when you have letters sent. You should e-mail your top schools and ask; they will give you a pretty straight forward answer about this most of the time.

I would let her know your situation and that fact that you are very urgent to send in your application in the very beginning of the cycle due to the fact that this is your second one. If she denies, then find someone else. I wouldn't want a person writing me a letter if she can't be empathic towards your situation. Also like another person mentioned above. Being out of the country should not inhibit the writing of a letter in the first place. Hope it works out.
