Anyone have any experience trying to get a LOR from an away rotation if you get a new attending each week and thus only work with them 4 or 5 days?

I was only going to use the letter for the program I am doing the away at. It's some place I really want to go to. I'm on an IM consult service by the way.

Thanks!

If you're only going to use it for that program then what is the point? Don't you think they're evaluating your performance as is? You shouldn't need them to write a letter about you that you're just going to send back to them.

I'm in the same situation. I don't think I am going to ask for one. I have been waiting for one of the attendings to say "hey, I will speak to the director regarding how great you are." Only the residents have offered to speak to the director on my behalf.

One of the residents told me that by getting a letter from someone at this program, it will greatly improve my chances of interviewing and match at the same program.

Similar boat, except I have an interview offered/scheduled already with this program. Maybe it'll help me get INTO the program?

I agree that, since you're rotating at the program, they will likely incorporate that into your eval regardless of a letter. But, why not simply ask someone for a letter. If they say they haven't worked with you enough, you could suggest that they ask some of their colleagues with whom you have worked to write a joint letter -- or at least provide input.
