i haven't taken a basic science class, except for the orgos, in a few years, back when i wasn't premed and didn't go to office hours, so none of my profs from those classes know me. i am already getting an LOR from my orgo I prof cause i did really well in her class, but i don't want to ask for one from my orgo II prof, because i didn't do that well in his class.

anyway, i guess the questions are can i count engineering classes as science classes and get letters from those profs and/or should i ask those profs from a couple years ago if they'll write me letters even though they don't know me and/or should i ask my orgo II prof for a letter even though i didn't get a good grade in that class?

thanks guys!

That was perhaps one of the most convoluted messages I've seen. But you have a letter from an Ochem prof, that's good. You can also get one from an engineering professor year, probably want one from humanities as well and perhaps your work/research/extracurricular supervisors. It is not generally a good idea to get a letter from someone you don't know unless you know they write really good form letters and/or you got a good grade in their class.

I wouldn't use engineering profs unless I had no other options...you can always contact all of your old science profs and say something along the lines of "I took your class a few years ago, really enjoyed it, and did quite well. Since then I've gotten interested in medicine and am in need of LORs. I realize it was a large class and that made it difficult to get to know students personally, but if you would be willing to write me a recommendation I'd be more than happy to meet with you for lunch/coffee/office hours so you can get to know me better and i can answer any questions you might have for me." something to that effect at least...you'd be suprised how many old profs are willing to do this...worth a shot at least, but do this quickly...the longer you wait the harder it is to get them to agree. you don't want to ask them for this favor and then follow it up with, "oh yeah and I need it in a week if that's ok"

i know - i'm sorry. i just start writing before i start thinking...

thanks for the opinion, though!

What is "Orgo"? Is that a class where you learn how to write properly?

Are you by any chance referring to "Orgallary Distillichemistra"?

I really wasn't confused at all by the message...if you guys can't understand that, wait until you meet your patients!

To the OP: Sorry, you're in a tough spot. If I were you, I would go for the professors that know you best and would have the nicest things to say. To me, engineering is about as science-y as it gets, but maybe you could contact admissions offices at specific schools? Best of luck--I hated asking for rec's
