So I asked my pre-med advisor and a DO that I shadowed for LORs at the end of April. Both of them said they would be happy to write one. I gave them a resume as well as instructions on how to submit to inter folio, as well as my e-mail address and phone number if they had any questions. I have still not received their letters. I took the July 6th mcat, so I want to have those letters submitted by August 6th. What should I do? I e-mailed them last week reminding them and have heard nothing. Should I call the doctor's office to politely remind him?

You should've tried to stay in contact with them. If you talked to them at the end of April, they may have already forgotten about it (especially the DO you shadowed) considering it's now mid-July.

1. Did you give them a deadline? If yes, see 2. If no, see 1a.
1a. You should've given them a deadline.

2. Has that deadline passed or is it fast approaching? If yes, email them again. If no, email them again next week.

What I did with my DO shadow doctor was give her a deadline. Even though I'm not applying this cycle, I wanted her to write the letter when she had my information freshest in her mind. She kind of went MIA for two weeks so I decided to show up to her office with chocolates for her staff and flowers and a card for her. It did wonders.

So you're just going to store her LOR in interfolio until next year? That's smart.

Yeah, I need to be complete August 6th, so the deadline is fast approaching. How should I email them without sounding rude? Would it maybe be better to call just in case they don't check their e-mail often?

Yes, call don't email. You won't be sounding rude because you didn't call them with a reminder every week. I am guessing your DO just forgot about it by now. Give him/her a deadline.

this is exactly what i did. I have had my DO letter since last summer. One of my science letters is even older then that. I made sure to ask the professor right after his class ended and he knew who I was.

Yeah, it's okay to call. My DO LOR writer sent me a note saying he'd call me to schedule an appointment and never did. I called his office and took care of it a month later. They're busy, it's easy to forget.

I would at least try emailing one more time. Then call. There's nothing to lose and a lot to gain.

Yeah I would get ahold of them and set a deadline for the near future. Your app is hanging on these LORs at the moment, start pushing to get them now instead of a month or two down the road, then you will really be freaking out.

So I called the doctor's office and reminded them, and I texted my prof, they said they would get it done. Still nothing. At this point, should I see about shadowing another doctor and ask them for an LOR? How should I ask, seeing as how I need it by August 6th?

If that is what you want to do, just ask the doc straight up that you would like to shadow him and you also need a LOR from him, and if he can not do that for you, then politely leave and go elsewhere.

Write them again. Tell them you've got your applications complete and schools have notified you that they are waiting on your LORs.
