I have noticed that for some schools we have an option of whether to send a DO or MD letter of rec. I have both of these, but I believe that my MD letter is a very strong letter whereas the DO will be good, but not excellent. Is it possible to send the school two letters of rec from physicians in addition to the comittee letter?

I'm not sure what schools would think of sending both, I know that Des Moines says do not send more letters than they ask for, so they would not like both, but since you aren't applying there... The letter included with the PCOM secondary says "although not required, you may also want to submit a letter of recommendation from an osteopathic physician", so I would not recommend sending both there... and Nova requires a letter from a DO, so that I would probably only send your DO letter there... not sure about the other two since I didn't apply to them... however this is all just my opinion.

I would send the DO for sure. And maybe the MD letter, if it was from a clinical experience.

I'm having the same problem with MD and DO letters myself. I submitted my primary back in early July and at the time had been unable to find a DO shadowing position. Of course now I've been shadowing an AWESOME osteopathic physician but I'm not so sure if it's worth his time since I already sent in the MD letter. Will the fact that I sent a MD rather than a DO letter keep me out of a school??

I know that you can send as many letters as you want to KCOM. I sent to physician LOR's. I would contact the schools and find out where they stand on this. If they allow extras, send both. If they don't, I would send the strongest recommendation, whether its DO or MD. Most schools have a huge red flag go up if applicants don't have strong recommendations.
