So I am applying to both MD and DO programs, like many people seem to do. I found out today through e-mail that one of my professors kept on referring to why I would make a good MD in the letter. I corrected him and said it would probably be best to say "physician," so I have a neutral letter I can use to apply to both schools. Did you guys all have to instruct your letter writers to not make the mistake of saying "MD" in their letters? Would DO schools really even care if a class professor said MD instead of DO in a letter? I'm guessing that is a common error by letter writers. I am nervous that I need to email my other letter writers that have uploaded their letters to interfolio and make sure they didn't make the same mistake if this will be an issue.

No, I think most physicians understand that the "norm" is MD. I really don't think DO schools care. That's why they push for a DO doctor to advocate for your potential as an osteopathic physician.

I'd call a few DO schools and see what they think! It'd be nice to really know!

I made sure to tell the people who wrote my LOR that I was applying DO. It made a difference in how strongly they recommended me, because they based their recommendations off of the schools I was applying to (with MD obviously being a bit more difficult to get into.) I would ask your professors.
