My professor who previously agreed to write my letter in no longer reachable (hasn’t responded for almost a month). With apps opening soon, I’m trying to look for an alternative. I was wondering how a co-written letter with my TA (who knew me well) and Professor (who sort of knew me) would look? It was Genetics and I got an A+ in the course. My fear is that my professor doesn’t know me super well. But my TA does, but he’s a graduate student. Thanks for any advice!

It really doesn't matter, just get a letter from someone who isn't going to bury an axe in your ass.

Get it from someone who knows you well enough to write a strong letter on your behalf

Ask this professor "could you provide me with a strong LOR for med school app" and see how he responds. Getting a LOR from a science prof who taught you in a class you did well is always a good thing.

I don't think I'd personally get a letter from a TA. Not as effective as a professor in the sciences.

Is it possible to go see this professor in person, maybe during office hours? Things get crazy busy this time of year. Plus, if he/she already agreed to write one, I think it really would be worth your time to get to the bottom of things. They already made the commitment on their part.

No, the professor unfortunately has already left my university so I can’t meet him in person.

I had a similar situation in undergrad where I was trying to get a LOR from an orgo professor. He totally ghosted me after saying he could write it. Your best bet is to look for another LOR and emphasize that it’s for your medical school app. If they can’t write a strong letter, don’t waste your time trying to fill that spot. A well written letter does make a difference.
