Is it stupid to get an LOR from a professor when you made a B in their class?

It was organic chemistry 2 nonetheless, but I still feel like no one asks for an LOR unless they earned nothing short of an A.

I took it over the summer along with Anatomy & Physiology and Financial Accounting, which I both received A's in... but I'm starting to doubt myself.

Two days before our first exam one of my childhood friends was killed, so my prof. knows how difficult my semester was, and I always tried to go into office hours to review problems I had trouble with, etc, but I'm starting to feel like this is application suicide. Or maybe I'm over reacting?

Definitely over reacting... If she'll write you a strong LoR, I say go for it. If you have other options, perhaps explore them first, but if that was the case you probably wouldn't be asking this question. I absolutely do not think it's improper to ask an instructor for an LoR if you got a B in his class. Sometimes, in some classes, no one gets an A, yet s/he probably writes LoRs.

I doubt that anyone here can help you answer that question. It's you and you alone who know how helpful your professor is. If you feel like the professor knows a lot about you, then I guess you can make sure you are asking the right person by asking him if he is comfortable and willing to write you a STRONG letter. Many people ask their professor to write a letter of recommendation, but few realize that it makes a huge difference if they ask for a strong letter, not just a letter.

If your orgo professor knows you pretty well and you think that they will write a good LOR then role with that.

However if neither knows you all to well I'd go with the Anatomy professor. If this is the case then they'll both write the same thing. Except the anatomy prof would write
"This student worked hard in my class and got an A"
While the Orgo prof would write
"This student worked hard in my class and got a B"

Point is, you want a LOR from someone who knows you and can say good things about more than your study habits such as your character. If that happens to be your ochem professor, then don't sweat it.

this is the most important part of that paragraph. He'll put something like, this student was persistent and reviewed even though she went through harsh circumstances etc

Thank you! That made me feel a lot better. I would ask my A&P professor, but I don't think the letter would be very strong because she knew that I already had a biology degree and I was basically taking the class as a review bc one of the pharm. schools requires it, but my undergrad. didn't offer it (only comparative physiology).

If that made any sense lol. Sorry I'm really tired!!!

I would still take the letter. I took Comparative Vert Anatomy, got a B, and was asked to assist with the labs (which I did) the next semester. That is one more letter to help me out.
