Can we send additional letters other than the one's that are required?
I know for most schools, they require a DO/MD letter and a Science professor. Can we send additional letters?

So far, it seems like it varies with each school. Best to call and ask

Most people I know send 5-6. Anything more than is too much. I'm sending 3 letters from professors (committee letter at our school is near impossible to get unless you have like a 3.7-3.8 BCPM gpa). Plan on asking two organic professors and one of my calculus professors. A letter from a MD, a letter from a DO. I will probably get another letter from the department head of a place I volunteered this summer (this may change if I find a person I feel can write a better letter).

It really varies by the school. You basically have to go to every one of their websites and look at their letters requirements.

Some schools state a minimum and their preferences, and I usually added 1 or 2 more to the required list just in case some of the letters I provided does not meet their requirements for whatever reason. (e.g., Missing a date.) So if the school requires 1 science professor letter, 1 physician letter, and 1 non-science letter, I would provide 5 or 6.

Some schools explicitly state a maximum amount. I adhered to their max. I believe MSUCOM has a max of 2.

Some schools say they have a minimum of 2 letters but will gladly review any letters you provide. In that case, I send all 9. 😀

The pre med advisor said at our school anything more than 7 may seem like overkill. I know the MD who is going to write my letter is going to be my best one. I've worked under him for many summers even in high school. One of the chillest guys I've ever met.

I mostly stuck with 5-6.
