When I filled out my AMCAS, I indicated that I was going to be getting a minor in music. However, now due to scheduling conflicts and such, I'm going to be one class short of getting it. It was a disapointment, but next to getting a second degree it wasn't important. What I didn't realize at the time was that I was going to have to tell schools that I wasn't getting the minor now, and it was just refreshed in my mind with my acceptance today. I'll have to tell them, and I'm wondering the best way to go about it, that won't result in my acceptance getting revoked. I figure that a minor isn't a huge deal, but it's a potential monkey wrench that could be thrown in the works. I've E-Mailed my advisor, but I figured it couldn't hurt to consult the internet too. Thanks. 🙂

I thought losing a minor wasn't that big of a deal. Do you have to tell schools if you don't plan to do the minor?

I wasn't planning to tell schools I dropped my minor or that I changed my major concentration.
I thought all they cared about was that your grades are still good.

First off congrats on your acceptance! It feels great to know that you're going somewhere, huh? Your predicament is an interesting one, although I don't really think its too big a deal. Perhaps the better safe than sorry approach would be smart in this case

I guess there are a few ways you could go about this......

1.) If and when you update your file by sending your fall grades (most schools want these right?), you could add that to you're update in letter form
*something about this option doesn't strike me as the best
possible way to do it... but its definately an option!

2.) Call or email someone about it.......did you get to know anyone in the dept of admissions? if you did, this might be a good way

3.) Just don't tell them and see what happens!

Good luck, and once again, i don't think you have much to worry about.....anyone else have any thoughts?

i dont think that losing the minor will affect your acceptance into a medical school. its not like losing your degree or anything like that. dont worry too much about it.

just as long as you get your bachelors you should be good to go.

Bachelors are required, minors are not.... and I am guessing that the the Music minor is not one of the main reasons you got in. In light of these things I do not think losing your minor matters at all.

What I would do is email someone in the department (anonymously if desired) and ask them if losing a minor would affect acceptances. Be like, "If I was accepted at your school and later found out that I was not going to be able to fit in a minor, should I notify you? Will it affect my acceptance?"
