that's pretty sweet!!! maybe we'll be classmates 😀. i'll let you know in a week or so!!
One of my sisters went to KY (she is a veterinarian). She loved it. She bleeds Blue. But I wouldn't go anywhere but Louisville. I didn't even apply to any other school. The reason is this: VIBE.
My current roommate is a 4th year. Through him I know many members of the current senior class there. All of them say the same thing about the school, it's a family. The students are generally not hyper competitive with each other, the faculty are generally nice, etc. And that's the same vibe I felt when I interviewed there.
For most of my life I have lived within 20 minutes of the ULSD, but across the river in Indiana. Since the 1980's when Howard Schnellenberger left the University of Miami and came to Louisville to begin the transformation of our (Louisville's) then crap-ass football team into the not-so-far-away from a National Championship kick-ass team we have now, I have been going to the football games. Even back then I always noticed that every game I went to I always saw this huge group tailgating in the parking lot, every game, having the time of their lives. They were always flying their UofL flag overhead, the flag of the ULSD (the flag consisting of the Louisville Cardinal holding a giant toothbrush!)
What does that have to do with dental school? Everything. When I visited some other schools it felt like I was in a prison camp. Never saw anyone smile. Nobody was really all that friendly. All I heard was complaints about how difficult the program is and how much they hated PBL, or whatever particular gripe they had. At UofL everyone was (and still is) very friendly, and was just thrilled to tell you about how great it is. Not that they don't find it hard, they do. I can tell you after every oral path exam my apartment was filled with drunk dental students blowing off a little steam.
And don't think that their program isn't going to be a challenge. any accredited school is going to give you the education you need. Now, they don't rank dental schools, but they do record Board scores and I can tell you that Louisville consistently scores well on the boards. My roomate's DAT scores were not all that spectacular, but he's at the top of the class and scored a 96 on the part I boards.
As for next years football season, maybe I'll see you there. Hopefully you'll be rooting for the right team.
P.S. Orange Bowl - Louisville over Wake Forest by AT LEAST 20 points.
