Loupes Magnification
Started by Chrono1984
Not sure what company you're planning on going with, or your budget, but at Pacific we're given the option of going with the 2.5x lenses included in our 1st year kit, or upgrading to 3.5x expanded field prisms, which we've found to have a better field width than the 2.5x.
Something to think about.

I actually JUST talked to my dentist about this today. He told me get 2.75x, says it works great.

Mine are 2.5x. I like 'em just fine so far.
Been using 2.5x since the preclinic days. I just ordered DFV 4.5x-EF with the Daylite LED and also ordered the Surgitel 4.5x on Oakley frames. I have 45 days to figure out which one to keep. Was even thinking of going 6.0x-EF, but i think i'll wait till later for those.

Let me know what you think of the DFV's, I've been thinking about upgrading to the 4.5. The course director of our pre-clin fixed course uses those same loupes 😎

Yeah, and it's always good to have the same magnification as the guy who's grading you!!! 🙄
complete waste of money. I am a 4th year and i never use them. dentist for years have not used magnification. we are dentists...not neurosurgeons.
Alternatively...if your eye sight is beginning to worsen, then magnification can help. otherwise...save your money until then.
i know i share the same opinion as a lot of my classmates.

Because this certainly couldn't be one of those opinion things right? 🙄
2.5x is a good magnification for beginners since you get a good field of vision as well as a fair magnification. once you get better though, higher mag always helps. Really depends on personal preference. Really does wonders when you do a cavity prep (helps you see all the imperfections that you wouldn't be able to see with your natural vision.

You have no clue.
so what do people have to say about medlite loupes and have you been happy with it overall. 3.0 or 3.5x EF? thanks!
I would be saying the same thing if I didn't have the patience to learn how to use them. The learning curve might be hard for some but it will save you your back and you can do a lot better work.complete waste of money. As in it takes a while to get used to and familiar with?
