I'm a DS1 who is a little behind the ball on ordering my loupes so I need to make a decision ASAP. I've narrowed it down to 2 overly expensive loupes that I've tried on that other students have, both of which I like pretty well.

I really like the idea of having three magnifications with the Orascpotic EyeZoom (3x, 4x, and 5x) that I can change based on procedure and what not, but the pair I tried on did not have a great declination angle as it is a TTL.

The Zeiss EyeMag Pro were both probably the heaviest loupes I've tried (both the 3.3x and 4x), but having it as an adjustable flip up on Oakley radar frames allowed me to get probably the most ergonomic position I've tried with loupes, and the clarity is unsurpassed. However, I only tried them on for minutes so I don't know how multiple hours of that weight and with a steep angle would do to my eyes.

Anyone have any thoughts on which may be the better option if I decide its best to drop this much cash? (Both would be around/over 2K) I think I will get some reimbursement from HPSP.

It surprises me that the Zeiss loupes were heavier than the EyeZooms for you. The EyeZooms I tried on were far heavier than my Lumadent flip-ups.

Both are great companies. If it were me, I would get the Zeiss loupes. The angle of declination is a huge factor, and to me, more important than the level of magnification. Plus, the people that I know that have the EyeZooms rarely use the 3x magnification, they stick with 4 or 5 and don't really change the level of magnification.

Zeiss is an overall better product. If you get the prismatics, the head strap is recommended given the extreme weight of the Zeiss setup. The EyeZoom is pretty awesome, cordless is awesome. Can't go wrong either way. If angle of declination is a huge factor for you, than Zeiss all day. Only downside of Zeiss is weight and a corded light.

I have the eyezoom and requested it at a 40 degree angle, it's pretty deep angle and so far I've been liking it.
