I am very worried about the RC portion of the DAT. I've scored an 18, 16, and 16 so far on the CDR tests. Has anyone been able to pull at least an 17 on the RC portion of the DAT with the scores I got? I have always struggled in the reading portion of all standardized tests mainly because I read really slow.

thanks guys.

In the same rut here. Got 1-20 3-17's and just got a 16(Test 5) in CDR. Test is Tuesday and Im freakin the heck out.

what methods are you guys using?
so far 16, 17, 17, 18...
not looking too good

I was reading whole passage + small notes on the side. I get too flustered going into the Q's blindly. Dunno what to do 😕😕😕😕

Ok, so I only took the first 9 tests. My scores were 15/16/17/17/17/18/16/19/21 which made me think that I would just fail the DAT because of the RC section. I got 19 on the real thing btw, I was lucky because all of my passages, although long, but were all science, biology specifically. I am a biology major, and I answered a lot of the questions without even having to read the passages. I did run out of time on the last 8 questions and basically just went crazy. Overall, I was really lucky on this portion of the DAT

What was your method?

I numbered from 1 to 50 on my note board and went over all the questions before reading, wrote down key words very quickly. then I actually read everything, whenever I saw an answer for a question, I wrote down paragraph number right next to the question number. I know it sounds like a long process, but it would help you with interference questions, I think I had like 7 or 8 total. you'll get faster with practice, try to use your left hand for the mouse and right hand writing stuff down.

On the real dat, do they use questions like, "what is the main idea of paragraph #?"
similar format to crack dat?

I didn't get any questions where they specifically said "paragraph #", so that made it a bit harder. They asked more specific questions about the passage, and I just had to remember where in the passage that topic came up.

Keep at it! You're gonna get there. There seemed to be a lot more pure factual questions than inference and tone questions on the real thing compared to CDR, so hopefully that'll help you out.

Hey! Were there several questions as in I &II, III, and I, or none of the above there?

Also another question, if it is more pure factual questions, does that mean search and destroy is really easy? Such as "What is the first step in extracting a tooth?" Or is it something like "Which of the following statements are true?" (The little bit harder one)

So how was the reading comprehension Moka?

Took test today got 19 for QR better than my 16 in CDR. Passages were a bit tougher and got 3 Bio's. Harder to do S&D on the real thing, but I don't think I would've been able to read through it all in time.

I don't know how I feel about CDR, personally. I like how I can get the feel for time so I can pace myself correctly. However, when I read the explanations for some of the questions, I often find myself thinking, "oh come on, seriously?". I think some of the points they make in the explanations are sometimes arguable, but oh well.

My scores on tests 1-5 are: 18/18/20/19/19

I write down key words from each paragraph and skim for the main idea of each paragraph and write it down as one or two words on my sheet. That way if the question is asking about the main theme of a paragraph, I can already have an idea if I've forgot. Also, some of my key words that I have written down are a part of the question. S&D works alright I guess, although that can be time consuming sometimes (like when the passage is 22 paragraphs long).
