I'm required to get a an adult sized aneroid sphygmomanometer. The ones in our bookstore are over $100, anyone have experience with Allheart brand ones or "Prestige" brand ones?[FONT=arial, helvetica].

required as in they actually "check" to make sure you have one, or required as in they "say" you have to have one?

I can say that you're not going to need one 3rd/4th year and definitely not the first two

they actually check, 2nd years have told us that we should grab one.. but most i spoke to feel they overpaid, or else I would just get what they got

Campus bookstores, ripping off broke students since... ever.

You should be able to find one between $15-40 just about anywhere. Hell hit up some old guy's estate sale you can probably get one for $2.

I doubt you are ever going to use it other than for practice on your own family -- Every hospital or clinic has many you can use. But I'm guessing you can find a cheapo one on ebay.

I bought the cheapest one from allheart.com...I don't remember how much it was but I think less than $20. We needed it for physical exam class first year, and that one was fine. Don't spent $100.

Just cut off a chunk of this bad boy and you're ready to rumble:

That sucks that they're trying to require you to buy that though. I'd try to get along without buying it as long as possible - see what the older students at your school think. Case in point: I'm planning on using an 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of paper rolled up 'hot-dog' way as long as possible instead of a stethoscope.
