please help me
can someone please add schools to my list?
I am thinking about applying to Loma Linda, Pacific, USC, Boston, Tufts, Creighton, New York, Columbia, Case, and Temple.

What do you mean by high DAT?

My situation was just the opposite; above ave GPA and ave DAT. You have below ave GPA and slightly above ave DAT. I would recommend applying to as many schools as possible/practical. So I would add any and all schools to your list for which you meet the prereqs and which accept a decent amount of out of state apps.

Out of those schools, you`re def good to go for bu, tufts and uop. for uop, early application is a must, though.
bu and tufts are more dat oriented, as far as i know.
nyu is now concentrating more and more on gpa.

good dat scores, btw.👍

lol ur the first one that thinks my DAT is SLIGHTLY above ave DAT.
Thanks for ur reply though

Why not add some state schools? If you don't have one in your state, add a few that allow claiming residency after a year. I know UNLV and Buffalo fall into this area. There's others if you search around. Your DAT score is going to carry you a long ways, might as well try some cheaper alternatives too.

sorry about the confusion.. i should have put more info about myself from the beginning. I am an internation student from Canada

when did 21/23/20 become slightly above avg? OP: That's a really damn good DAT score. You will definitely get some interviews at the schools you listed. Just apply early.

The DAT looks solid. However, you might want to explain the disparity between GPA and DAT in your personal statement. International students have high expectations so you might want to call schools to see what they are looking for in international students or if they consider international students at all. This could save you some $$$.

I should have been more specific; those scores are slightly above averages of accepted students, especially at Pacific. The science Ave is very good; and well above the ave at most schools.

first off, this response is, not to sugarcoat it, cocky. do you honestly think that your DAT is WAY above average? it's AT BEST, slightly above average. i would say that your chances of getting into schools are best at the lower tier schools such as boston and NYU. why dont you add meharry and howard just for kicks?

I think your Dat's great but not more than slightly above average as well. Awesome rockin' high DAT (to me) is, 👍 23 and above. 20 is the average DAT of the matriculated students at MOST schools, there are a few that have 18-19 but most have it in the 20.

Meharry and howard have lower stats than other schools but since i am not a minority, i don't think i am gonna bother applying to those schools.
does anyone like to add/remove schools to/from my list?

There seems to be some confusion about what constitute average DAT scores. At the level of 21 it is hard to call them average when the mean DAT of applicants is at 17. Only 5.9% of the applicants scored a 21 and above. And only enrollees at Harvard, Columbia, UCLA, UCSF and SUNY SB had mean scores above 21. There were 2 at 20.7 and an additional 2 at 20.6. At the higher end of the score spectrum a one point difference represents a small percentage while in the mid section we are approaching 20%. The % scoring a 21 is at 3.5 and only an additional 1.6 % scored a 22, whereas the difference between 16/17 is at 18.2% and at 17/18 at 17%. The gpa is just the opposite with only Howard and Meharry registering below 3.2. The combination of low gpa and being an international student will make acceptance more challenging.

I think you have a shot at Temple. Your DAT was slightly better than mine, except for visual, which was definitely better. My GPA was around 3.25, so you have a shot. I don't know if being international would make much of a difference, especially being from Canada. I definitely like your chances at getting in somewhere, especially at schools that have a high amount of out of state students.

do u know what their admission requirements are for temple? cuz i just went to the website and there is not much info there.
Btw did u get in anywhere?

Your science DAT score is excellent...don't listen to some of the people on this forum...And most definetly do not apply to Howard or Meharry!
Add Nova. I got an acceptance there with similar stats as yourself! good luck! 🙂

similar stats? lol u must be a very humble guy. I wish i had a GPA like urs but i do have an upward trend, which i believe most dental schools like to see.
Btw i am not sure if nova will even think about giving me a shot since they want a high GPA.
Thanks for ur input though. I will definitely look into nova =)

DAT scores are more important, as long as your GPA is above a 3.0 you have a chance somewhere. If you look at predents.com you will see that there are people with the same GPA as you that got accepted.
The most important things: 1) high DAT scores 2)interview and 3) apply EARLY!!!! I applied in May last year. 😀 (its extremely important that you apply early if you want a chance at Nova and Pacific! I would apply on May 15th!)

That is really good to hear but i have one problem. I know they process my application without the LORs but will schools even look at it? The problem i am having right now is i might not be able to get my LORs by the end of may hopefully early june

The schools won't look at your app until your LORs are in... However, you should know that AADSAS take 4-6 weeks to process your application after it's received. That means the schools won't even see your app until June 15th at best is your submit on May 15th. With that in mind, not getting your LORs in until early June won't really hurt you...

add nova... i thought the same thing when I was applying - their average GPA is high (mine is below ave.) and my DAT was solid but not stellar. nova wasn't in my original choices of schools, but I added it to the final list...ended up being my only acceptance 👍 good luck

I mentioned you having a good chance at Temple because I did get accepted there and at least in terms of DAT and GPA, I'd say you're even a slightly stronger candidate than I was. That being said, I was waitlisted my first year, but that could also be due to the fact that I didn't apply until almost October. When I reapplied, it was in early June and I think that helped as well. I even got in despite ribbing Brian (main interview guy) about being a Flyers fan. Hopefully I'll be able to fake fun of him more if the Pens beat the Flyers now.

Back to Temple though, they're one of the least picky schools in terms of who writes your LORs, ie, they don't require one from a bio, chem and physics professor. To me, they seem to be a school that relies heavily on DAT scores, personal statements and interviews, which definitely benefited me as my DATs were good and I don't stress out over interviews.

DUDE! You can get into any school you apply to, just apply early, nail the Interviews and your good. WOW! Good job dude. Kudos. What materials did you use to study if you dont mind me asking? I am using Kaplan books, DAT Destroyer and Topscore and some of my old science books. Is that enough?

wish that was completely true, but thanks for the motivation

anyway, i used topscore, crack pat, achiever, destroyer, took the kaplan class, campbells bio book (6th ed.), and most importantly of all, WIKIPEDIA.

Aa/ts/pat

GPA = 3.75

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I am from South Dakota and so far I am applying to Minnesota, Iowa, Creighton, Nebraska, Colorado, and Indiana. Am interested in also applying to a couple schools on each coasts. I was thinking about Washington and Oregan Health and maybe NYU on the east coach. Any suggestions on these schools or other schools I should think about and look into would be great. My bad ummjoey and midiland i meant the top schools in the nation.

your scores are more than good enough. i think some people will flame you for asking questions like this.

use the adea book and predents and apply to schools with scores around yours.

Your predent stats state
BIO 30 (vs 22)
GCHEM 24 (vs 23)
OCHEM 26 (vs 23)
AA 26 (vs 23)
PAT 24 (vs 22)
RC 24 (vs 25) -- you seemed to decrease this one here
QR 23 (vs 20)

So what gives? Which is correct, if any?

ah the joy of internt anonymity. This is why I ignore all posts directing to predents.net. It will give you a rough, and I do EMPHASIZE rough, idea of the stats of applicants to a certain school. But the most you can really do is take what you see with a grain of salt, which is really worthless.

In other thread, he explained that his friend posted the first post with 23/23/24, and himself posted the second post with 21/22/20. And 3 days after the second post, he posted that he got 26/25/24.

Hm... But, one thing I notice is that all three posters have same GPAs.
I could be wrong because some posts may be edited soon... 🙄
Anyways, I think there are two possible explanations to this situation.

1) This guy gave out expected scores on previous posts, but actually ended up with much higher scores.

2) This guy is just lying. 👎

I hope #1 is right.

This is the exact reason predents and SDN are nothing but a joke when it comes to stats. I could say I have a 4.3 GPA and 30's across the board for DAT. Then what? If you want stats buy the ADEA Official Guide to Dental Schools, as they will give you true stats without lying.

Funny, cause I have the book and people here get stats that are way higher than the average, median, OR EVEN MAX that the school reported. Well take every "stat" listed here with a grain of salt. Use official sources, because everything here is bunk.

Tons of people lie about stats, but not all of them get caught in the act. If you are going to lie at least be consistent! Oh, and by the way lying about stats does not psyche anybody out of applying to dental schools so you are not helping yourself one bit.

lol@you guys running a full on fbi investigation on this dude like he's frank lucas from american gangster. MY MAAAN.
