I'm spending this semester on nothing but the MCAT and some shadowing for recent clinical experience. My GPA is so low (2.7) it'll take years for me to remediate it to a competitive 3.3-3.5. Are there any DO SMPs out there where a 2.7 and (hopefully) high MCAT is competitive?

I don't want to go to the Caribbean, but I also don't want to waste 2+ years jumping through US schools' hoops when I could rechannel that energy into busting my arse in the Caribbean.

C'mon, do your homework. Google is your friend. PCOM and Touro-NV are two that come to mind.

All I've found is people saying you should just do a 1-2 year post-bacc with such a low GPA...

1) Dont go to the Caribbean.

2) spend your time retaking any science course lower than a B-

3) I wouldn't even worry about the mcat right now. Put in a solid year of retakes and your gpa can be in the 3.2 range. You're way off now and if you hit a bump in the road your mcat may expire before you're ready to apply.

I raised my gpa from a 3.2 to >3.5 in two semesters with some retakes sprinkled in.

Save your money. Avoid SMP. Retakes are the fastest and cheapest way to improve your GPA.

Agreed ^^^^ listen to previous posters and do a year of retakes. If you really want to venture in some postbacc programs here are some with contingent linkage agreements. Vcom, NSU, LECOM, DREXEL DPMS (for URM), TEMPLE. Go to the schools website to learn more. Goodluck

I agree with this, a post bacc would better.

Disagree... Grade replacement would be better. One year full time retake might put OP above the 3.0 GPA mark. Then 27+ MCAT would get him into DO.

Actually to come to think of it, retakes at a cheap state school would be a great option. Once I graduate, I might be doing the same with some non science classes that ruined my GPA. Grade replacement has done miracles for my friend whose at a state university. He will most likely be graduating with a 3.5+ with grade replacement when in reality he has between a 3.3-3.4 ish.
