I have a very low GPA (below 3.0) DAT score of 17/17/20. Applied to NYU, NOVA, Meharry, BU, Maryland, Ohio State U.. Graduated spring '05 with Biology. Doesn't look like I'm getting in anywhere for this cycle (I know), what do I do next though? I've been reading post bacc program posts...but more inclined making my own at my O. State (where I graduated from). I was thinking of taking Histology (+ some other classes not sure of yet) spring quarter. Plan on retaking DAT in March...other than that, what should I do? Just take grad classes this spring and summer? What should I do to get in?

The best thing you can do is call the schools that rejected and talk to them, if you can schedule a meeting that would be even better. Ask the admissions poeple why you were not granted an interview and what was lacking in your application.

I'm sure they will tell you to retake the DAT, and it looks like you are plannig to do that. Taking more classes to raise your gpa is a great idea, make sure you do well. Also, if you can, continue shadowing or working for a dentist. Or if you can try to get involved in research, even better if it's dentistry related.

Good luck.

I have BS in biology with a 3.3 GPA, 3.1 Science, 30+ hours of shadowing.
AA=20, TS=21 PA=22

The schools have my folder and I have faxed them my DAT scores.What do you think about my chances for this cycle?

I hate to say it, but your DAT is low, not okay. I would say a 18-19 is the average to get in with a good gpa. Considering yours is low, I would shoot for a 21/22 to be competitive, which still does not guarantee your chances of admission.

Ya you're right it is low...I just like my PAT score...what do you guys think though...retake the DAT and do good hopefully (20's+) and lay back and work/chill for the rest of the year and half...or retake DAT and do post bacc as well...basically what I'm asking is: which is better doing very good on DAT or doing post bacc and doing good but not SUPER good on DAT? It's a dilemma b/c a whole year of post bacc is a long time...
