how do u answer it if the main reason u have a low gpa is because of slacking off/lack of motivation/bad studying habits? do u just be honest or say something else?

I don't think it's wise to say you were lazy or unmotivated. That'll get you rejected in a second. The interviewer wants to get to know you so don't shoot yourself in the foot by saying that you're a bad student. Remember to make it as positive as possible.
It's not what is said, just how you can spin it. If you had a low GPA early on, and improved dramitically, just talk about your growth in college and how you matured to become a better student. Just try to make it sound as positive as possible.
i get this question all the time in interviews. my grades started out low and got much better, so i just said i changed my study habits, matured, etc....don't ever mention that you didn't try or slacked off.

i said i was stupid and i just didn't understand the material. probably should have said it better. my grades were skewed that semester; 2 As, 1 D so the study habit thing wouldn't have really worked for me. also said i tried my best and at that time, it was the best i could do for that particular class.
