I am currently a senior pre-med honors student with a 3.8 GPA, 2+ years of medical internship and hospital experience under my belt, 2 years of undergrad research with my university (I am going to be publishing my microbiology research sometime in the 2012 spring), in the honors program of my college, plenty of extra curriculars including tutoring students at my university and involvement in clubs/activities, I have had two jobs for the past four years of college to put myself through school.....

My ultimate goal is to get into med school and I was planning on applying this year for the FALL 2012 cycle but I got my MCAT score back in september and I got a score in the high teens 🙁 I don't have the time and dedication to take the exam again and decided to not apply this year. I'm thinking of doing a BMS program at some of the Chicago universities in my area in hopes of getting into med school once I am done with the masters program.

I am just really stuck right now and need help to make a decision.

Is anyone else in the same boat as me!???? Being in this position absolutely sucks!

Even with the masters program you need to retake the MCAT and score significantly higher; no way of dodging this. You need to eat, drink, and breath MCAT next couple to few months and get as close to 30 as possible. You can do it!

I took a 7 month prep course for it and basically studied for another 4 months on my own after the course was over and I still did horrible! I think I will have to retake it or take another prep course

So what do you think happened? What were your practice scores?

You're going to have to take charge of how well you do on your next MCAT. Your career depends on it. Nobody's going to figure this out for you.

Best of luck to you.

You have a 3.8 gpa, so you know how to study. I take it you did well on your pre-reqs, so you should be comfortable with the material. Hmmm...

Did you take full-length practice tests? If so, did you examine where you went wrong? Also, what study material did you use (Berkley, Exam Krackers, etc..)?

11 Months of studying and still in the teens makes no sense for someone with your academic record.

you say chicago schools...if you're in central illinois at all i'd be willing to help you in person this spring a few hours a week. but like others have said, you need to go over your weaknesses. you're not dumb, you just aren't studying like a smart person. you don't get a 3.8 without being able to hit a 28 mcat no matter how horrible your grade inflation could possibly be. let me know
