Hello all,

This summer I have noticed that many of us have done decent on the DAT with the exception of QR. Unfortunately, I am one of them. I was wondering if anyone with a low QR has gotten any positive feedback froms schools yet. It seems as though many of the schools I called wouldn't really talk about their "cutoff" policies so it's really hard to tell what the outcome will be. I am especially interest in Maryland if anyone has experience with them. They told me if out of state to be competitive must have an 18 in each section, but they didn't comment on the overall scores, just each section.

I actually havent taken DAT yet, but for ppl not scoring to well in QR, is it because of the lack of calculator or the actual material is just difficult

This section really infuriated me, 45 minutes for 40 questions is brutal, and QR really doesn't relate to dentistry at all.

And to make matters even worse, I live in Rhode Island so I have no in-state schools to apply to, and no schools have deals with RI.

I basically just applied to every private school and a few more northeast schools.

I really hope I get in, everything else on my application is solid, but that 14 just sticks out so badly..... F-you QR.

They just need to make sure you can count to 32 properly.

The only school that I have had any problems with was Case. They put my app on hold until I retake (I'm not doing it though). As long as you can balance out your low QR score with good scores in other areas I think you should be fine. In case you are interested, here are my stats: 3.77 gpa, 3.84 sgpa, 20AA, 21TS, BIO19, GCHEM21, OCHEM29, RC18, QR15, PAT22. Good luck!

We have similar stats. Did you apply to any other eastern schools? Mine is TS 22 AA 20.

Buffalo, Maryland, and Temple. I haven't heard anything except that my app is under review.

So far only one interview at Midwestern.

Nah, you're the Speaker of the House! I'll be vice with my 14 QR (19/21/24). So far I've interviewed with Baylor and have another with UNLV on the 4th of October. Good luck all!

yeah, i'm at URI.... I'm a senior now hoping to get into d-school this year... hopefully QR hasn't forced me to retake this damn test and waste a year of my life... do you go to URI also?

I think the worst part of all of this is that many of us are actually decent at math. I have never had less than an A in a college math class and never scored this low on a practice test. I don't know about you guys, but my section was totally different than most everythingin Kaplan, Destroyer, and Topscore. In all of those there was always a simple algebra or trig question, but none of mine could be solved immediately. There really needs to be a good prep book for QR!

Hopefully schools won't apply the "cutoff" to QR if the other sections were good.

I just turned my apps in to aadsas and they are still waiting on a community college i went to summer after high school year in which I took history and stats to get a head start. I fedex'd the package priority overnight and it got there 4 days later!!!! 😕😕😱

Hey, I ended up applying to NYU, BU, Tufts, Creighton, Marquette, Meharry, and Howard in addition to Temple, Maryland, WVU, UCONN, UMDNJ, and Buffalo... hopefully I can earn a few interviews so I can prove to the committees I'm not as dumb as my QR makes me look.

I'm definitely in the club! I haven't heard from any of the schools I applied to and I applied to a lot. Buffalo has my application listed as under review on AADSAS.

(Columbia, Marquette, OHSU, Temple, Tufts, Buffalo, UCSF, Colorado, Michigan, Minnesota, Penn, Pittsburgh, UoP, UW, UNLV, and VCU)

I don't think I am even going to send in the supplemental fee for Penn and Columbia as I probably have no chance at those schools whatsoever. 😡

I'm glad some people here have been getting interviews cause I am really worried...

Don't sweat the low QR. I have a 16 QR (21AA 22TS 18PA) and I interviewed at two places so far with 3 more lined up.

At the two places I interviewed they never brought up my low QR but both complemented me saying I did extremely well on the DAT (maybe not to SDN standards).

I am curious what your other stats are if you don't mind? Are you on predents?

According to AADSAS, my cGPA is 4.06 and sGPA is 4.05. My other DAT stats were:

Bio = 23
GC = 19
OC = 21
PAT = 17
RC = 19
TS = 21
AA = 19 (QR severely brought me down here).

If you need other stats, let me know. I'm not on predents.

I think you have a solid shot, your a girl with an above average sci. GPA, plus being a hygienist is going to give you a boost. Do you have a state school?

There is hope, 😀 i got 18's in both qr and rc and got in, but i got a buddy in my class who got 16's in both and he's in dental school now. Just b/c you got a bad score in qr don't count urself out, especially if ur aa is a 19

but... i would make sure that a school wouldn't just toss ur app b/c of a bad score in a section. b/c i've read some schools want you to score at least a 15 or something in all sections. Just be careful and make sure, find out on ur own by checking the school's websites or calling them

But I'm good at math. There was something wrong with that test, 'cause QR felt EASY to me, I was prepared and I have never scored below 19 on any QR practice tests.

I just got an email from OHSU stating that they have a requirement for a 15 in every section and I need to retake the DAT to have a shot there. 😡

I have talked to UMDNJ about cutoffs because their website sit there wer no cutoffs but the Official Guide said there was an 18 minimum. The woman said not to worry. She thought my scores were competitive. 20AA/21TS/16PA and 15 QR.

I also spoke with Penn and they said the like to see an AA of 20 or above. They said that 16 PAT was not bad ( I really feel like it is after seeing everything on predents.com) and to only retake if you feel your scores are not representative of your abilities.

NYU told me to retake. They said they want a minimum of 17 in all sections.

I'm still waiting to hear back from Temple. The Official Guide for 2007 says they want an 18.

It seems like it's hard to get a straight answer.

I feel your pain, I haven't taken the DAT yet, but I know that my QR is going to be a doosey... I really dont know what I can do before the test to increase it, because people who are getting perfects on their practice materials are getting like 14s and 15s... I havent had this type of math since 8th grade... I was an engineer and I did BC calc without a calculator in high school... I should be able to do this, but I cant... I am terrible at this math... I wish there was a calc section (that would be a bit more relavant)...

Oh and I am from DC so NO state schools, no deals... we arent even a state... good luck to you!!
