Hey, I was wondering if you guys could let me know if there are certain schools that require a minimum score in all sections of the dat and what schools they ane and what they require. I scored really low in math and wanted to see what the cut off would be. THANKS!

Applied to

NOVA
UIC
UF
INDIANA
LOUVILLE

More info would be helpful, i.e. your actual DAT score ('low' to one person is not necessarily 'low' to another). You could probably contact the schools you applied to directly and find this out, and do some research on your own by checking out the schools' websites and/or buying the ADEA guide.

Well, I plan to call them but since it is saturday I thought I would see if anybody new earlier...

Here are my stats

GPA 3.61

RC21
PAT19
QR11👎
GC18
OC19
BIO17

AA17
SA18

Score are'nt too bad but the math is so pathetic I am afraid noone will overlook it?? What do ya think?

I think that it is a safe assumption that no one will overlook the 11. Retake is definitely in order. Good luck.

What percentile is 11?

17AA is not to promising these days. People are scoring 20+ and not getting in. Retake.

to mention the percentile would be even worse then listing that I got an 1🙁 It VERY pathetic😳

Dont schools look at the whole picture though? I thought maybe since the rest of my package is strong I may have a chance:scared:

Seriously, I wouldn't plan on getting in anywhere with anything lower than 15 on any section of the dat. Like it was mentioned above, 17 AA is pretty low. I think 17 is the national average and if you aren't above average then you wont get in. Think about it, there are about 4500 first year seats around the country with 13000+ trying to get a seat. Being in average puts you around 6500th out of 13000. Not get going to get in, especially with an 11 on the board. Take an algebra course, study your guts out and retake the DAT. That is your best chance of getting in. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Dental schools will indeed look at your application as a whole, but an 11 in any section (even in QRT) is LOW. I know many people who have been accepted with low QRT scores, but have made up for it by doing extremely well in every other section. For instance, I had a 17 AA 17 TS and received only 2 invites (from my state school) over a 2 year period and was waitlisted each year. I agree with everyone else, if you do your research, you will find that to be competitve in this new era you must be well above 17... aim for 20s and above in all of your sections... and if you expect your QRT to be your lowest score, then make sure it isn't below at least a 15 - given that you do 20+ on every other section.

i am pretty sure that Indiana has a 17 cut off for each section.

I know for a fact that Louisville, Indiana, and Nova have given a bunch of interviews already. I notice that those are 3 of your 5 schools. Not having heard from them by now may be an indicator of their thoughts on your dat scores. The good news is if you do well on it next time you should be in great shape. Good luck.

As a dental student the rest of you scores seem average. I too struggled with QR it really brought my average down. However I am in dental school. Don't let people tell you can't do it...you can. You may get waitlisted or have to re-apply as I did, but it can happen. I got a 12 and I am in at one of my top pics. Keep your chin up. The more people I speak to at school we all had a weak section, its not the end of the world. The DAT was a nightmare for me and if I can do it so can u!

Thanks for that last comment. It gives me a little hope for this cycle😍
YOu all have been a great help!

I personally know someone who received an interview from Detroit Mercy who had a 9 in QR...no joke. I think his AA was 18 and the rest of his application was VERY solid...some schools (mostly private) dont actually have a cutoff and if you work hard to get to know admissions etc...you could still have a chance

wouldn't an average of 17 imply that some scores are above 17 and some below 17? When looking over the ever inflating scores posted my SDN members it appears as if many scores below 17 are getting accepted for the national average to be at 17.

I am feeling the love guys! You are great! I figure its all about the full package, and I am gonna stay hopeful🙂 I assume there are many people with really high scores but no life experience or social skills that will have a hard time with the interview, so I guess my best bet is to pray and rock the interview to make up for my math score!!😀

You guys ROCK!:biglove:

pretty sure the nationall average is 17, but the average ACCEPTED is 19... but yeah some above, some below
