I just checked my status on LSU's website, and I made it to the top 150 for OOS 🙂 Did anyone else make it, and if so, did your GPA calculations disappear? My GPA's had been calculated, but now they both just say TBA....?

There was a programming error that removed the finalized GPA's for those out of state applicants whose status was changed after the Top 150 Out of State applicants were selected. This error has been resolved, so all Out of State applicants in the Top 150 should now be able to view their calculated GPA's on the LSU SVM Online Status Check System (www.vetmed.lsu.edu/admissions).

Thank you for making our office aware of this problem.

I had a mini heart attack when I got the update email from LSU this evening. haha

I nearly had a heart attack to! "Here's an email to let you know that we will let you know later if you got an interview" Pretty sure I already new that. Though it is nice to have a more exact date, I will be glued to my computer through Thursday. Anyone know how many of the top 150 OOS get interviewed?

The LSU SVM will interview anywhere from 40 to 60 of the Top 150 Out of State applicants. It is important to remember that if an applicant is not offered an interview, this does NOT mean that he/she is no longer under consideration. Out of State applicants who are not offered an interview are still very much "alive" on the alternate/waiting list.

More information is given once the admissions committee makes its interview decisions.

Agreed. I am an example of this. I didn't get an interview, was put on the waitlist (OOS), was mailed a letter saying they are no longer filling any more positions, and less than a week later, I got a phone call and was accepted! So don't give up, you never know 🙂

I got an interview invite!!!!!!!!

I have a question for others who received invites: There is a note at the bottom of my invite that says it is conditional and Fall 2010 transcripts must be received, but in the section under it there is a check-mark in the box saying that the transcript was received. Is the note on everyone's invite?

Sooooo excited!!!

This error within the LSU SVM Online Status Check System should now be resolved; however, please email the LSU SVM Admissions Office at [email protected] if you continue to have this problem.

10am on the 5th!!!! Who else is attending the reception on the 4th?

congrats to everyone who got an interview! just a heads up, 2/5 is our open house and when all of the out of staters interview. It's always a mad house at the school, so just be prepared for that. I know some people who were thrown off by how crazy things are while they are there for their interview. But don't worry, you'll be in a quieter place for your interview and will get to enjoy the open house on your free time while youre there. Open house is a great opportunity to get to see the school and everything we do there. Last year was the first open house I have been to and I was so impressed with it. I hope you all will enjoy it as much as I did, and good luck with your interviews!

I am looking for hotels to stay at and need some help. I am not going to have a car and would prefer to use public transit/bus instead of having to pay for a taxi. I found the Capital Area Transit system website but am having trouble finding a hotel on one of the listed stops. Are the buses in baton rouge even reliable? (I'm from Baltimore so I'm kinda doubtful of the reliability of buses). I know the school has a system to but i am having issues getting the map with the routes to show up on my computer.

What im asking is if anyone has a suggestion on where I could stay for a few days (i want to explore baton rouge while i'm there) that is convenient to public transport?

I wish I could help, but I have no idea about public transport in this city. I live 5 minutes from the school so I don't really worry about it. But I might be able to ask some people in my class about it. The closest hotel to the school is right on Nicholson called Staybridge Suites. I know the LSU bus runs down Nicholson, but not sure about the public transit.

I'm not sure how reliable the public transit is, but this hotel is right by the number 5 route.

I will! :hello: Good luck to everyone interviewing! :luck: Time to get excited for Open House! 😀 Feel free to post here or PM me if you have any questions.

I'm going, but not interveiwing. I'm just going check it out, I'll be applying next cycle. When do they do interviews for IS?

I will be interviewing on saturday!!!!!

Is anyone staying at the staybridge suites just south of campus? And/or going to the friday reception and would want to meet up and head over together?

I so excited😀. Though disappointed that the weather is going to get unseasonably cold just for the days I am there. 🙁

I'm not sure where I'm staying at - I'll have to ask my dad (he's coming with me). But I would love to meet up and go to the reception on Friday night together 🙂

I am also upset about the weather, especially since it was 70s and sunny earlier in the week 😡

Tell me about it! It was in the upper 70s 3 days ago, and now tomorrow is a high in the mid 30s and freezing rain in the forecast, yikes! But at least Saturday is predicted to be a high in the 50s and sunny with no rain! yay 🙂

I live right behind the staybridge suites. I'll be at school setting up for open house and watching the 3rd years get their white coats! What time does your info meeting start Friday? I didn't interview there, but if you have any questions, I can try to answer them. What time is your interview?

My interview is at 10am on Saturday, and there is a reception for applicants at 7pm on Friday (weather-permitting). Is the hotel close enough to just walk to the vet school?

You could walk (I've done it before for football games), but it will take at least 20-30 minutes...and I wouldn't want to do that in this cold weather. If you need a ride, I can pick you up. I have class till 3pm tomorrow. And then I wanted to be back at school around 5pm to see some of the white coat ceremony. I can take you to the school then and you can walk around or hang out in white coat with me. I then have to help set up for open house at 6pm, which you are more than welcome to come and see what we are doing until your meeting at 7pm. It's up to you. I can wait till your meeting is over to take you back as well. Its literally no more than a 5 minute drive. Check your PM I'll give you more contact info.

Well I just got the official email. All of LSU including the vet school will be closed tomorrow because of the winter weather! So I don't know if they are still having your meeting at 7pm tomorrow or not. Hopefully they will be informing you shortly about that.

Hmmm, Mr. Granier sent us an email this morning saying that everything was still on as planned. I just checked and no new emails, but I'm sure if something changes he will let us know. Are the roads bad (icy, etc.)? We're driving in tomorrow...

LSU just sent out the email about the school being closed about an hour ago (Rave: my first "snow" day). This was about half an hour after getting an email from the SVM saying everything was open but to follow LSU if they announced a closure. I would assume the vet school will be informing you guys as soon as possible when they figure out what to do about Friday night. So far, it has only been drizzling, but weather forecast for tonight and tomorrow says freezing rain, sleet and snow. Please be careful and safe driving in.

Just got an email saying that although LSU is closed, the dean has decided to still do the welcoming reception Friday night, and that the interviews and open house will remain as scheduled on Saturday. Hopefully the weather will cooperate! :xf:

What a crock that cancellation was! It barely got below 32! I guess I am just a little bitter because now we have to "make it up" after school from 3-5 all next week... oh well.

Hope everyone's interviews went well! I was not lucky enough to get an interview and was wait listed till the week before I graduated in May! But, better late than never!

Tell me about it! Now I have to make up a test too....that makes 3 tests this week instead of 2, plus making up the hours of class we missed. So lame! And our Tuesday test was pushed to Wednesday because of this, and we were already scheduled to be there till 4pm, so now add a 2 hour test and whatever hours of class we have to make up after that. OMG THIS SUCKS!

It was definitely very unnecessary.... hopefully they won't jump the gun again; it just costs us more time and rushes things later on. I'm all for being safe but I could've told you that day there wasn't going to be any weather storms worthy of school cancellation!

Me too! I was the last to be admitted to the C/O 2014 after a good 3 month stint on the OOS alternate list.

Hola ~

......just browsing....or rather dutifully scrolling through this thread.....

CONGRATS to all who had Interviews......I'm an OOS Alternate .....so KUDOS lol!!!! -wish I was in ur shoes....but im not so moving on

QUESTION: Do you all have an idea of when they're going to let you know about Acceptances and/or Denials, or a time-frame of some sort??

-If anyone who interviewed or goes there would share their insight......I'd very much appreciate it, and I'm sure everyone else out there twiddling their thumbs on the wait-list would as well!

~gracias~

When I interviewed on the 5th they told me it would be a week or two. I think a lot depends on how rescheduling works out for those who couldn't make it because of the weather. Until I find out I will be consistently pressing the refresh button on my status page!

Definitely plan for two weeks. If you plan for it to take a week, that second week of waiting will be horrible.

My status just changed on the portal. I got in! I'm so excited!

Congrats hunterjumper!! 😀 :claps:

ETA: As far as the waiting list time frame goes, as hard as it is, be patient. I got my call last year on April 13th. Hopefully those of you waiting won't have to wait that long. It was definitely stressful being in limbo.

I was an OOS alternate for about 3 months... starting in late January. I was notified by LSU on April 30th that I had gotten in (one week before I graduated and was going to move back home).

If you're an OOS alternate, there won't be an interview. You will be waiting perhaps probably April 15th, since that is the day that all of the initial invitees have until to give their "yay-or-nay" to LSU about attending. Depending on where you are on the alternate list (which they can't tell you because "it's always changing"), they may call you sooner, they may call you later. If LSU is your #1 choice, and they haven't called you after the formal date for all of the interviewees *DONT GIVE UP HOPE!*

This was the hardest thing about being on the OOS alternate list.... I didn't have to interview, but it was real sucky to wait around.

For those of you considering LSU (this cycle or the next cycle), the admissions office setup a forum just for LSU-SVM.

http://www.tigerdvmforums.com/

I'm not sure why with all the help that SDN gives, but maybe it will give more specific info about LSU.

Hello everyone,

Yes, the LSU SVM Admissions Office has set up a new online forum, www.TigerDVMforums.com, specifically for the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine. The goal of this new LSU SVM forum will be to give students in current application cycles a chance to engage with some of our current DVM students to learn more about the LSU SVM from the "student perspective."

If my calculations are correct, this is approximately ten kinds of awesome. 🙂 👍 Thanks LSU!
