Is important to be able to distinguish between the two? Could anyone please explain the difference for me? To me they seem pretty much similar, except I know that Lysosomes are involved in apoptosis. Thanks.

Lysosomes breakdown cellular wastes, digest macromolecules from phagocytosis and can be involved in apoptosis.

Peroxisomes perform metabolic duties such as beta-oxidation (along with mitochondria, in animals) and are involved in lipid biosynthesis. they also contain catalase, which converts H2O2 (a byproduct of rxns within a peroxisome) to water

You should definitely be able to distinguish between the two!
