I’ve done maybe a few hundred cards throughout first year hear and there, but nothing with any consistency. Is it too late to really get into it once classes start? I won’t be able to over the remainder of my summer. Should I reset my anki so I just have a fresh start at this deck?

It's never too late. Depends on how your second year is set up, but you should be able to get through it without a big problem in m2.

I have a systems based curriculum. Do you have any idea about how many new cards a day are reasonable?

Just grind as many as you can. I was doing 1000-2000 cards a day including reviews in the end and I matured a good chunk of it.

I second this. Started the last block of M1 and have been going hard this summer and have already been through about 10,000 or so cards.

My only advice is YOU MUST DO ALL OF YOUR REVIEWS. EVERY DAY. I did not for the first few thousand cards and now I need to spend a huge amount of time catching up.

The thing that gets you is say you have 3000 reviews piled up, by the time you get through them if they are "young" cards you will have forgotten some and then you send them back on a 1 day interval so in essence you may have to do a good number of reviews 2 days in a row if you cant remember them on the first shot.

Hence how critical it is to keep up with them.
