I just got evals back and an attending I worked with several months ago wrote me the best eval I've ever gotten. Would it be too late to ask them for a letter?
No harm in asking. I probably would not be able to write an eval for a student who worked with me months ago, unless they happened to be in the top 5% of students.
Many letter writers meet with the student and/or ask for certain pieces of information to craft the letter. When that time comes, you remind this attending of what was written in the eval and the letter can reflect something similarly positive. Letters can be hit or miss, and if you get better vibes from a M4 rotation you can always chose to not send this letter in….
