I know some of you guys and girls said you like to listen to Goljan along with your Pathophys classes. Do you tend to set aside specific time to sit there and listen? And if so, is it just passive listening? Or following along in Rapid Review (which would be hard to read and listen at the same time)? Or take notes while you listen?

Or do you just listen to it at the gym or walking/driving to class?

I'm just curious to see in what ways people have found it effective. I guess technically this could go for anyone who's used it for Step I studying too.

Personally, I think its an efficient use of time if you read the book first, followed by the audio elsewhere (laying down, gym, washing dishes etc). Everything he says on the audio, is in the book in much more detail. Its makes no sense going through the audio along with the book because he jumps around a lot and it can get quite frustrating.

Typically, I would finish reading Robbins/ Lecture notes over the week, read the rapid review on a Saturday and at night, while cleaning up my place or while laying in bed, I would listen to the audio. I thought it was the perfect way to wrap up a system.

I listen to it while I'm at the gym. It's a perfect way to multitask, and honestly I get more high yield studying at the gym than anywhere else! Some people have a problem focusing while they are running, but it has been pretty natural for me.

I listen in my car to and from school.
I read Rapid Review as my primary source (besides notes) and just use Robbins if I need more detail.

I listened passively during the year at the gym or mowing the lawn. It didn't really help me at all for my school finals. During my boards study, I'd listen again following along with the book when I was sick of reading. That was more helpful, but honestly I'm not much of a audio learner so I didn't get out of it as much as some people.

I Read Robins then read rapid review along the audios, he follows the book very closely so you there isnt any major jumping around. Sometimes i just listen on my way to school. Every time i listen i learn something new. 😀

The 3rd post of this thread had the audio breakdown, it makes using the audio with the book a lot more efficient http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=626603&highlight=Goljan+Audio

I listen to it when I'm burnt out from reading but still want to study (so from like 10 PM to midnight).

I listened to the audio every day during my commute, but otherwise didn't let it take time away from studying for my current classes.

Each quarter/semester I would listen to the topics that I had in school the PREVIOUS semester as a high-yield review to cement the topics in my head, after having built a detailed foundation first time around in classes.

usually in the shower and while making love to my wife.

My steps for path:
1. Read Robbins once and highlight
2. Read Robbins 2nd time and make notes
3. Listen to Goljan w/ the Rapid review book in front of me. Add add'l notes
4. Annotate Rapid review w/ my Robbins notes
5. Lot of Practice Q.

It seems like a lot, but I've been doing well in path, so it works for me. I only have time to listen to the Goljan lecture once, but they are really great.

I listened while I ran. It helped me burn off all those nervous munching calories I racked up while studying. ;-)

I listened to each lecture once (sometimes twice if I was daydreaming too much during the run) while I was taking the course. For example, I listened to all the heme lectures during my heme course. I started listening to the lectures about midway through course. If you listen to them before you know anything about the subject, they won't be helpful and they won't make much sense.

I then listened to (almost) all of them another 2 times in the couple of months before boards. I forced myself to leave my books behind every afternoon and go on a run, just me and Goljan. By this time, I was very familiar with the content (and the dumb jokes), so it was a great refresher. So, I get to thank Goljan not only for helping me on step 1, but also for keeping off those study month 5 lbs I definitely would have otherwise gained. 🙂

I listened to it while cooking and eating and at gym/treadmill. Not when I drive, if I walk then yes.

I listen to the audio that corresponds to whatever organ system we're on and follow along in the book annotating as he talks. The book actually follows along with the audio very well, at least the last edition did; I haven't seen the newest version. The night before an exam, I put those lectures on repeat on my iPhone and pray for osmosis.
