I'm sure I am not the only one with finals just around the corner. And for whatever reason my airport express has decided to stop recognizing the original network I set up and start joining other ones, OTHER SLOW ONES! So, I tried unplugging airport and plugging directly into the cable modem, I tried shutting down, resetting and I even tried removing my network and setting up a new one. Now, even though I am sitting RIGHT NEXT to the airport express, it's plugged in and green it says I must be out of range as it can not locate the airport. WTF? What do I do? I hate this, I am tied to the wall in my bedroom bc I can't figure out how to create a new network or get my old one back in. I can't update the software bc it can't find my airport express. What do I do? Someone please help me. Do I need to get another one? Should I get that big space ship looking airport that costs $200 instead of the $129 that I paid for the express? I can't take being tied to the wall any more.

Thanks for your help. I greatly appreciate it.

what is your DNS server set to? And what is your ISP? Are you using ComCast by chance? If so, I have a friend who had the same problem with her AE, and here's what she did:

-Open applications/utilities/airport admin utility
-select your base station
-click configure
-click internet
-delete what is in the dns servers input boxes,
-update your base station

If you don't have comcast, maybe that will still work for you.

How do I find out what my DNS is? I do have comcast. Also, I just looked where you told me to look and there is nothing listed for me to configure, it's not even highlighted for me to click on 🙁 Now what? Bah! This blows!

Thanks for your help!

Hmm... could you do a screen capture of what you're seeing? I don't know what to suggest if its not even letting you change anything.

At any rate, the problem is definitely on comcast's end, not in your actual device, so definietly don't replace it. Calling comcast probably won't help (as they aren't exactly apple-saavy), but you can try searching the macworld.com forums or the Apple airport discussion forums, because this is a common problem recently.

I don't know how to do a scren capture, not all that technically savy myself. All I know is it doesn't seem to be reconizing what I have but it is letting me join other peoples net work. When I use the assistant to create a new network it says it can't find my airport. Can I uninstall the software entirely and start over? I just feel ready to pull my hair out right now and i am sure it is a comcast issue as they seem to suck and if the equipment isn't from them, then they usually say you are SOL. Grrrrr!!!!

Thanks again for your help. I greatly appreciate it.

Do a device reset on the base station

then run the airport base station setup located in the utilities folder in applications

presto...
