Technology mac question- reformat

Im trying to figure out the best way to do this. I am selling my quicksilver g4. What I want to do is make it so the next time the computer is booted up, it boots up like it is the very first time and asking you to create an admin profile etc... and wipe all the old files out.

I realize the most logical step is to reformat the hard drive but does that mean re-installing OS X? (I cant seem to find my cd's that came with the computer)

Yes, that means re-installing OS X. That's the best way to do things. You should format your hard drive and use a program that 0's out sectors at least 7 times to keep people from reading your data. It is still possible, even after a format, to retrieve data. Of course most people don't have information that requires this level of protection.

How hard is it to re-install OS X? Is it a real pain in the ass or would it be worth paying someone to do this for me?

you can zero out your harddrive with Disk Utility, up to 7 or 35 times. no need to get an external program, but I would definitely not do this without yout CDs. Are you planning to sell them with the OS included? If so, I would contact apple ASAP and see about getting replacement install/restore discs. They should either be free, or cost a small fee. You don't want to sell it to anyone without those discs (in case they encounter problems), so do that ASAP.
