Hey everyone, this is my first post 😀 but been a long time reader

Ok here the situation..
Earlier this year I got offered a paid position (TA position) at my school for the upcoming Fall and the paper work has been already handled at May to go through human resource. The professors insisted that I put that on my application and so I did (professionals right?!)

Got everything submitted 2nd batch, however due to some administrative problems by the university, they won't allow me to take the position. I've fought this for a week now and there's no possible way for me to get it. Me and the department found it the rules ridiculous, but it is the rules stated by the university, but no one mentioned it to me or them; but the worst part now is that I cannot change it on my AADSAS application and the schools already received everything. Despite how much the Bio department wants me to do it, there's no possible way and now it looks as if I stated false info on my application.

Solution me and my professor has come up with is that they'll write me as a letter and I can explain myself when I get to the interview.

Three way I can do this..
1) Call each school I applied to (even though they really don't want to take phone calls at this point) and explain my situation and send them those letters if they want it now.
2) Get to the interview and BEFORE they even ask me questions, tell them about the incident and give them the letter (shows that I'm honest and bonus points?) as proof.
3) Don't mention anything and hopefully they won't mention it. Or if they do mention it, then I explain that I didn't do it THEN give them letter (makes me look bad? like I wouldn't have told them unless they brought it up in conversation?)

What does everything think?

Well just call the schools and explain them, and send the letter if they need it. Don't wait till you go for the interview! Good luck bud 🙂

I would probably go with option 3. I don't think its a big deal your not going to get accepted/rejected because of a T/A position. As long as you can explain why didn't get the position and it doesn't sound like some crazy story then I wouldn't worry about it.

You didn't lie right? you just said you were hired as T/A for next fall? and it turned out that you couldn't get the position.

I agree with you 100% but I will be a nervous wreck to go with it :scared:

i agree, but what if the interviewer asks about his TA experience? explaining the situation at the actual interview would be a waste of time/a huge digression i feel

Interviewer: So how do like being a TA for BIOXXX

Blue87Fiero: I actually couldn't take on the position. The university has a policy (insert policy explanation) No one told me or the bio department about the policy until a month after I submitted my dental application.

as far as wasting time I don't think its a big deal.

That's just what I would do because I feel like a could better handle the situation in person that over the phone or sending letters out.

option 1 or 2.

i'm advising to go with #1 only because they may think, if you went with #2, you used it to get an advantage in order to get an interview.

Should one list a future job/ volunteering experience on the application? I have a similar situation in which I have been accepted as a volunteer for the upcoming academic year, but I am unsure whether to list it on the app in case something comes up and it doesn't end up happening. If I do list it, what should I write for the number of hours?

wantDDSalready- what did you write for the hours/ dates?

I don't think I would mention it. It probably wont make or break your application and your avoiding the potential conundrum that the OP has.
