Hi, after seeing tons of posts on here recommending Micro Made Ridiculously Simple, I finally got it and love it. It's the easiest book for learning micro I have yet seen. I like it so much that I'm considering some of the others in the series - pathophysiology MRS, step 1 MRS, etc. However, I can't find any posts on here with views of the other books in the series. If I do a search, I can find tons recommending the micro book, but none of the others. Anyone got opinions on the other books in the series?

After using Micro, which I agree was quite helpful, I tried a few of the other MRS series and was sadly disappointed. The authors seemed to miss the point of the "ridiculously simple" concept. They were "fine" resources, and no worse than other things out there, but they certainly didn't do a good job of dumbing down the material into memorable mnemonics and pictures like the micro one. Just my opinion.

👍👍👍
100% agree I have the cardiology MRS, the anatomy MRS and the clinical pharmacology MRS in addition to Micro of course....but none of them even come close to being as helpful as Micro and as Law2Doc pointed out, they were just like everything else out there so certainly wouldn't hinder you (though in most cases they are incomplete - even as references), but they don't have the "ohhhhh, why didn't I think of that!" factor that helps you remember the way Micro does.

I used the Clinical Neuroanatomy Made Ridiculously Simple one, but none of the others looked any good from flipping through them. Neuro was good- I also used HY Neuro, but would have been fine with just MRS.

The Neuroanatomy is pretty decent, and good for lesion stuff, but it is pretty basic. Probably actually good for CLINICAL neuroanatomy, but for class/board purposes..eh. It did give me a few good ways to nail down the brainstem cross sections and stuff like that.

On amazon, people gave decent reviews to the pathophysiology one; anyone tried?

I am using Clin Biochem MRS together with FA. IMHO, Clin Biochem MRS is a good book giving a good integrated overview of metabolism. The fold-out map of the integrated pathways is fabulous. I am an old grad, so biochem is not my strong subject, and I feel I need to give my best to the test. However, studying for the test after work for a couple hours a day only, I really can't be bothered with big textbooks like Lippincott's review (which I also have, but have not been using all that much).

Given, Clin Biochem MRS is not as good as Clin Micro MRS - but it is still pretty comprehensive and gives more than enough info for Step 1. Or so I hope. I will let you know my test results in a few months time.

I'm not so worried about whether they are complete, as I will be using other books as well, but rather do they have the same funny drawings and pneumonics that are so enjoyable in micro MRS?

There is plenty of "funny drawings" in the Clin Biochem MRS book, but not all that many mnemonics. However, the author did do his best to try and make the dry, boring subject as entertaining as possible. I guess, the problem is that there is only so much "interest" that you can create in biochemistry land...

My advise would be to look through the book at your local book shop before you commit yourself to buying one. It definitely does not have as much of the universal appeal as the Clin Micro book.

As previously stated the rest of the series is fairly useless. I have the Behavioral Science one and I have already ditched it in favor of High Yield.

Micro is a gem though, and the Goldberg Neuroanatomy is a quick read which is lacking in some aspects.

Aight, thanks for the info. So it looks like the only one worth having is micro.

I liked the neuroanatomy one and will use it for lesions when studying for the boards. Its a fast read and gives a nice overview of everything but since you finished neuro you are probably beyond that. There is only 1 funny pic in there for the circle of willis which I ignored their mnemonics.

I have the pharm (got it in a package of med books off ebay). Nothing funny going on here. I don't plan on using it for boards.

Yes the Acid-base/fluids one is a close second to MMRS. Still nothing as good but the Acid-base one has gotten excellent reviews. Apparently there is a Step 1 MRS now. Have not seen it yet though. I liked the Cardio one as well but some of that stuff is geared more toward a resident/attending than other ones in the series.

I've heard good things about the "Acids-Bases, Fluids and Electrolytes", but there are no cartoons or visual mnemonics in it. Just cold facts. 😉
