As i begin my last bunch of interviews in jan, I was going to cancel my interview at maimonides in brooklyn for various reasons, including others applicants experiences i have met on other interviews when talking to them- being pimped incessantly and no presentation whatsoever about the program.

i receive this email today from them:
his year we have had an unusually great amount of interest in our
anesthesiology program and as such, more than the number of applicants
that we
can accommodate for interviews. Although we would like to interview
all the
selected candidates, it is unfortunate that in the interest of time
some of
the interviews have to be cancelled. We regret to inform you that we
have to
cancel your appointment at this time. Please accept our sincere
apology for
any inconvenience this might cause.

i think this says something about the program, the way it is run and what low class it has. Cancel an interview after it is give out??? anyone heard of this? what bull****.

A program rescinding interviews already granted? That's funny. Even funnier is the program that's doing it. I would guess they would first rescind interviews for candidates they don't expect to match (ie. that are too good for them). I didn't even apply to that dump. Too many better programs out there.

im gonna go call the PD next week and try to get the story on that... totally not cool... they must have signed people outside the match which i have heard in the past. regardless.. not cool. shows that programs are out for themselves and i think PD'ers are equivalent to used car salesman... what if i have a non refundable airfare to that dump?? i would be even more ticked off.. fortunately i have enough interviews..

You should definately call the PD. Break him off something awful if it turns out he was the one who made the decision!

so i call maimonides today. spoke with secretary. I'm said regarding the email you sent me, it sounded like you rescinded on the interview your program granted me..... She's says, yes, that is correct, the committee re-reviewed all of the people being interviewed in january since we were flooded with applications and we could not accomodate everyone scheduled to meet "our deadlines." I said that is interesting since i know programs are interviewing till first or second week of feb. what is even more interesting and added more salt to the wound is that she admitted when i asked, that they were not completely done with interviewing on jan 1st, as implied in the email, but that they were going to interview a select few more. I remarked that i wanted to speak to the PD and that of the 20 interviews I have received, no program was unprofessional to take back an interview they granted. Interestingly, I get a call back from her 5 minutes later saying the PD is in a meeting but would i like to keep my date. I will go for the hell of it, and will definitely have a few words with the PD about it..

as an aside.. the sec told me as i prodded her for more info that ther have 6 spots and as i suspected, 3 have been given outside the match and the others are within the match.. just my 2 cents for those applying next year.. save your money and click on another box on ERAS or go buy a few beers cause what this program did was totally uncool..

Done interviewing Jan 1st?? They lied to you.. when they gave me an interview last month they offered me dates up to the end of Jan.

the tone of the email made it seem like they were all done interviewing, which i received on dec 31st. they werent going to say straight out that "we are not going to interview you after extending one to you.. we just a have a few more that we like better and will just interview them"... man that program sucks..

i interviewed there as well. i truly think maimonides is the worst program in the country...
