I am currently a student at a CC, and next year will be my last year. I know that a Bachelors degree is not required for Pharmacy School, but I plan to get one anyway, in Music and a BA in some science (most likely Bio). Im already working towards both of them and it's working out. Anyways, for a while I really thought about applying to Med School after graduation to be a physician, but lately I've really been considering pharmacy. I work as a pharmacy assistant now, and I'll be able to do that for almost two years total now.

You can major in anything and still get into pharmacy, right...? But...i here there is alot of chemistry, etc in pharmacy scool, is there a preference for science majors like biochem. We wont be play in orchestras and singing opera in pharmacy school...

Also, is pharmacy experience on apps "overrated"...do adcoms see the app and think "o...another tech..."etc....

I've got a friend here who has her degree in music (vocal) and the pharm school actually arranged for her to be involved in choirs and voice stuff on campus.

actually, i hear it's a pretty good idea to have a different major or minor in something other than science - it shows them that you're well-rounded. my doctor was actually a dance major in college -- they accepted her b/c she did great in all her pre-reqs/mcats & was well-rounded.

I got my BS in Biomedical Sciences. But like someone said it really doesn't matter as long as you have your pre-reqs. It just so happened that they were included with all the classes that I had to take for my degree so that's why I majored in that degree. Good luck!

I was a psych major and don't regret it a bit. Sure the biochem majors are sailing through our biochem sequence now, but don't have the variety of courses and experiences I had as a psych major. Do what you love, whatever it is. It will make you stand out too.

Hi, I have a related question. If you major in a non-science major and take the pre-reqs, how many courses less are you taking than if you had been a science major? I wonder if it's possible to major in something else, do prereqs, and then minor/major on yet another thing. Would that be manageable?

I ended up staying for my science degree, because i wasn't short that many classes after taking all the prereqs. If I would have stayed one more semester, I could have had minors in chemistry and religion. But, I chose to graduate in the spring so I could walk with my friends.

You would take more classes overall if you did a non-science major, since there would be less overlap between the major and your prerequisites. I was a biology major with a chemistry minor. All of my chem counted towards prerequisites, as did nearly all of the biology outside of the upper division electives.
